No go in gas pedal

So I'm driving home and my gas pedal just went away, as in half. There is a lot of play in the pedal before you can feel it turning the throttle. I have to floor it to get going now. I hope this is something simple. TPS ? Cable ? I did a search but cant seem to find another post of this problem.

Sounds like the cable stretched. Or your pedal is bent or broken (that's what mine did... Somehow). Check the top off your gas pedal where the cable connects. If it looks ok, check the other end at the throttle body. Most likely just a stretched cable though.

After looking at the gas pedal where the cable connects i found a little rubber bumper that goes between the cable and the end of the cable shroud. Kinda like a spacer about half an inch long or so. This had somehow split in half and was just hanging on . If it would have fell on the floor (and I found it) than I wouldnt have had to post. Anywho thanx !

Yeah, this exact thing happened to me. I expect it's a common problem on these 20+ year-old trucks. I crafted a new one out of a piece of rubber fuel line and a hose clamp. Been working great for the past 40,000 miles.

Thanx ! Ya I wonder how many trucks out there have lost this little piece, and think that , well its an old truck so... And if you didnt know about this part ahead of time, you wouldnt think that anything was missing. I did find posts about taking the slack out of the cable. I bet there wouldnt be slack if this little rubber thingy was still on. Funny, I was thinking of using a fuel line but the old one was just split. So put it back on and wrapped it up with 3 cable ties then wrapped in electrical tape.
