BATTLE, ..... I've done the CUT zuk mod, just personally felt it to be more secure..... but ppl have been seeming to have no "OHV noooooo, my zuk flew out!" issues with the no cut zuk mod...hahaha

Anyway, I have had the 12"x I25# zuk for 2 years? (In my zuk thread in my sig it will say how long now), through MANY miles, and often pushing them to a serious pressure and coming down on em hard while wheeling, etc..... they've never let me down.... all for 70 $ shipped. Now, also, when I loud my rig heavy on trips (ask the guys who were on the trip to Tierra Del Sol Annual Desert Safari Event this year with me..... several-100s of pounds and hardly came down an inch!

When offroading? Really nice ride through the humps and dips and so forth.

Chef... It is a toss up weather cut or no cut mod for me. I have been lingering in this forum for about 6 months and have read your Build and Zuk mod thread (excellent source of info for me, thanks) as well as many others and rely on them for my truck build, just never posted because I am a noob and just learning as I go and have alot to learn .(Yotatech gets me through 14 hour night shifts)

I don't know if CHEF was serious or not about people saying the springs are falling out. as far as I am concerned (with the no-cut method), there is no way that could happen.....considering that to get them on, you have to lower the rear farther than the shocks will allow and even farther yet to get the springs in (in my case we used a bottle jack and even then had to compress the coils to get in there) and once they are in, they are entrapped not once, but twice (top bumpstop and bottom bumpstop). so as far as I am concerned, there are NO WORRIES with the no-cut method.....takes less than an hour to do and gives a great improvement for very little effort.

Would you guys think the 13" springs would compensate for removing 4" blocks? My truck is lower in the front than back but, I'm gonna Prbly throw some bj spacers in soon. The ride is horrible with the blocks now. (tank like) Jus wondering. Thanks.

I agree 100%. I am in no way concerned of them falling out. I guess for me the only real differance between cut / no cut, is convienience and someones preferance on the way it looks.

once you set the truck down with the longer springs shown here, they will be a huge pain to get out. i paid 72 shipped for mine and very satisified with the results.

great thread guys, you have sold me on this mod for the money. I am planning on having my springs re arched and add a leafs added from a local company. But that will cost me $280 or so. I think Ill do the $80 mod firsdt to get me by

This is the exact method I used after seeing this thread... I have no complaints what so ever after 3,000(give or take) miles so far. Simple... inexpensive... and effective. The only cons that I have read about is the flex ability as the suspension compresses into the wheel well... I don't do extreme wheeling so that makes no difference to me... All in all it has been great .

Hey Battle: If doing this on a computer, just copy, there and paste, here, the bottom of the 4 links under each pic, the "IMG" one. From the phone, u click ur phones menu and select "view links", and Again, click the lowest/"IMG" one.

Jerry, I wasnt trying to say IT IS unsafe, no way! Sorry..... just didnt seem as secure to me at the time. Anyway, in an obvious way, its better, as u dont have to cut the stop tower.... I can just heat and bend and then have my machinist weld them back on (yep, I saved em, hahaha).

I DID, however, see a thread or post where it wound up goind through the guys inner fenderwall...... Didnt u see that one too? Maybe it was in my zuk thread? Cant remember, but did see it. But I am and never have knocked this...... its, as uve seen, never stopped me from pushing the Ruby's flexibility to the max..... And it does pretty well in that dept., IMHO.... and WOW can it handle loads!

Not sure if you saw the pictures that battle, but it looks pretty much 0 sag to me. I have to read back, maybe he's wanting more load capacity? But anyway , I am certainly not trying to discourage him or anyone. It's easy to do, cheap, and easy to undo, and most importantly it can handle tremendous loads and I still could flex just fine. I do remember at first not being able to flex as much as now. I think they had to break in a little bit. And they can be quite squeaky when I really get it flexing..., but it doesn't bother me so I could give a crap if a little squeaky bothers other people on the trail. He he he he. Also important is the fact that I've never felt unstable using these, even in some pretty extreme situations on the trails. You know what I mean? By the way when is Rausch?

hmmm...no clue on Rausch.

never saw any bad pics of the no-cut. I would think somebody, did something less than "smart" on the install to make that happen.....such as using springs that did not fit snugly in there enough to have to compress them to fit in.

i will wait for Joe to get home and put his 4runner up on our little "flex" dirt pile and try to get a rear wheel off the ground. either way we will have a good pic, either of maximum reach, or his 4runner laying on it's side.

Looks like they stuff up in there just fine... Your thread Chef was what inspired me to research this option. I have yet to really flex mine but it seems that it works excellent. Thanks for the pics! Nice 4Runner. Love the work you've done.

I was able to click on your links and the pics opened up....Looks like your truck has enough lift in the rear to match the front already. I don't see you factory stock leafs fully sagged on the overload.
The best way to make sure the coils will never fall out is to jack the rear bumper up til the tires are just barely touching the ground...then measure the space where the coils will go in. Should be 14 inches or less.

couldn't get the tire off the ground because it was slipping too much. but that's a pretty far reach in itself. But, as you can see, there is quite a bit yet to go before that spring could come off. No worries here.
