I'm finally driving my 4runner again, against my wantings due to the colder weather. Anyways all is good for the most part. I just finished swapping a manual in and ditching the auto which was the best thing I've done to this. I'm having some weird problems that I didn't really notice before, but it's been a while since I've driven it. First of all, ever since I have owned this thing, it seems like it doesn't have a cold idle circuit. It starts fine in negative degree weather, but it idles low (around 6-7 hundred RPMs) till it's warm. When I start to drive, my A/F will lean itself out in the mid RPMs with no load to about 15-16:1 while cruising, causing it to surge and backfire under deceleration. If I put it under any load at all, it goes back to sticky on the A/F meter and runs fine, till I take the load off. Runs fine after its hit normal operating temp. Wondering if anybody has ideas to what could be causing this?

The IACV shown above is up to 88, maybe some early 89's. The late ones (horizontal intake as opposed to the early ones that turned the intake downwards) are solely coolant heated but the early ones also had an electrically heated circuit. Basically, the coil heater circuit from the carb'd engines transfered to the IACV (IAV to some) to supplement that, and the later engines which did not have carb's as an options had a purely coolant heated air valve- the AAV.

ok that things what ive been havin problems with. my old motor which was a 94 didnt seem to have one, i have no connector on my harness to hook up to it. my new motor does have that. my problem is that i dont have a connector to hook into on my harness. what can i do?

Ok, I screwed with this and talk about one of the most stupid ways of adjusting it. I had it to where I thought it would be better than before and when I went to go start it in the morning, the thing revved to 2k until it warmed up. So I messed with it some more and now it's pretty much back to the way it was before I tinkered with it. There is no easy way to fine tune this thing! Oh and I found one of my temp sensor wires was broken off, so I fixed that and it is running a little bit better, but still leans out.
