Hi guys,

I posted in existing thread on "95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners" but was told to move to "2G 4Runner forum where the 22RE's are. 4Runners on here use different NGK wire sets and I have never seen this kind of complaint."

So here goes:

One of the NGK spark plug wires I got from sparkplugs.com (SKU: TX99A, ITEM : NGK9799) has developed a crack after just under 2 years. I expect wires to last longer than that.




Would like your thoughts AND, better yet, first-hand experience.

1. Do you think it's indicative of NGK quality and I should get a Denso instead? OR
2. Could it be just a fluke so should I stick to NGK? (Sparkplugs.com will give me some discount for repeat order).
3. Does anyone have any experience that differentiates between NGK and Denso?
4. Denso DENSO Part # 6714003 is actually less expensive than NGK9799 from Rock Auto.

just get spark plug wires from toyota and be done with it.. I asked a toyota master a couple years back and he told me only toyota spark plug wires only

NGK and Denso are both oem parts for Toyota. I have the wires you have for about 4 years with no issues maybe you got a bad batch!

Does Sumitomo (Toyota OEM) make these as well? In my experience the NGK's have performed well, as have the Denso's, you may have a flukey set. I think equally important is to be sure your cap/rotor/plugs are all one of these makes and in good condition.

All that said, I recently had an FJ80 that burned a new NGK plug boot and caught the boot on the igniter on fire. I had only seen a cracked boot prior, so certainly check your igniter with a multimeter. What do your plugs look like?

As said, sumitomo is the OEM maker of Toyota spark plug wires, not NGK or Denso.

Go OEM as they will last for much longer.

and the good thing about toyota spark plug wires not only do they last longer but they have the date when they were made on the wires . I changed mine just because in 2011 and the old wires had a date of 2002 or 2004 cant remember . I didnt need to change them I just did as a maintenance item
