NewRunnerPics...maybe

This is the 4Runner that my girlfriend and I were looking at and as mentioned in a thread couple days ago, unsure of price. Previous thread:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...runner-127519/

At first glance and walkaround it looks great and as stated before it drives very, very well. Asking price at dealership is $7995 and we "sort of" met at $5000cdn plus tax and bulls*#t admin fee leaves us at $6000cdn in the end...very tempting with only 158,000kms/98,000ish miles on the 22RE, but check out pics...

The Bad...

What do you guys think...is it too much rust on frame etc? Like I said before mechanically everything is sound and drives great with a mint interior. If you look closely at the tailgate there's rust bubbling where the license plate goes and to the right 1-2" down from window. Please, I'm stuck here so any comments welcome.

Wow...if I were you, I would definitely look around for one with less rust. That stuff will spread like wildfire...

if the metal is solid i would not worry about the rust! just make sure it is solid and put some por-15 on it!

It could be solid for right now, but that corrosion will keep on spreading and would be ALOT of work to stop.

I would hate to try to work on that 4runner with all that rust but other than it it looks nice on the outside.

Exactly. If it were me, I wouldn't want to crawl around under there checking to see if the metal was solid, plus, it could be solid in one place and rusted through in another.

Also like Anthony said, with rust that bad, any bolt that you try and remove will most likely be a huge PITA to work with.

I honestly think you and your girl would be better off looking around...

Good luck!

WOW too much rust for me. it has a great exterior/interior for its age, but i'd go with something in a little better shape on the under side, especially if you are planning on upgrading or working on it yourself. just my 2 cents...

you guys have clearly never been to canada, the land of salt and rust.

thats completely normal for a truck of that age in canada. just make sure the metal is solid, no flaking, no holes. you can keep looking for one with less rust but i doubt you'll find much.

I see the jury has made a decision eh?...my gut was telling me to wait and find something better but it's so tough to walk from something that is 3/4 in good shape and better than my truck...although my frame is is decent shape. Maybe for half the price it would be worth it but I'm in no condition at this time to work on a vehicle for a while. It really is deceiving but like most of you stated, not worth time/money. Damn....maybe I can talk em' down and show the dealer the pictures...ahhh Unless I get something mid/late nineties rust is inevitable even on the later models. But the price is too much for 3rd and 4th gen. The frame is flaky...not too sure about holes or structural integrity.

If that's the norm for up there then I would use your judgement, or maybe talk with some people that you know up there about it.

Except for the undercarraige rust it looks very nice but rust scares the crap outta me especially when it is frame/crossmember related

I would personally pass on that one. I never trust used car dealerships, who knows what they have covered up with that fancy detail job.

Stick it out for a little longer and find a private seller, then take the car to get a full inspection. It will cost some green but it can save you thousands.
