Newbie bought a 4Runner

Hi, just bought this 1987 4Runner about 3 months ago and finally got her running. I have put about 1,000 miles on her and I love it. Been lurking around awhile and decided to share.

22re, 5spd,SR5, BJ spacers, and 33's.
So far she has gotten 19 mpg on stock gears (I think they are stock) mixed highway and city, is that normal?
Anyway, I'm in Texas and would like to meet other people here.

Nice! 19 MPG on 4.10 stock gears and 33" tires on a 22RE is really pretty good (I think).

I get 17 or so with 32's and stock gears, 32" tires and 4" lift.

Thanks, I have read some folks getting 24 mpg. How is that possible when these vehicles were new, they didn't get that much. Is there a bit of exageration going on? Mine does not seem sluggish at at, but I was driving a 6spd Dodge dually before this, so I'm really am not sure if it is sluggish or not.

Because thats "EPA estimated MPG", not an actual road tested reading. It's all about who is driving the throttle over what terrain and which way the winds blowing. I get/got 26 and am due for a new calculation soon since adding drag from a high top camper shell. I expect it'll still be in the 20's. Of course this is a 2wd truck not a 4runner, but some of those still get 20+.

The short story is if you hold back on the acceleration and don't accelerate up hills you'll see an improvment always.

Regarding the meeting people you can edit your profile and include your location that'll help. Texas is a..Uhm. kinda big
