Newb question but....

I need to know right away (im gonna but new ones tonight) what gear ratio I have in my 89 V6 4runner 5 speed. I know its either 4.1 or 4.3:1 but is there any way to tell besides looking at the gears or jacking up the truck? because if its 4.1 then I am gonna get the 4.56 gears for it and if its 4.3 then I am gonna get the 4.88 gears for it. Thanks
Andy

probably 4.10's i think, but im not sure as there arent too many 3.0L 5-speeds.

if you check the door sticker, which has an axle code against the table on this site you can know for sure.

ur also gonna wanna match up ur gearing to ur tire size. just going up to the next gearing doesnt always work. 4.88's for 33inchs, etc.

You are correct, in your interpretation. However, I think Toyota must have made a mistake because your axle code should be G294. G292 would be a 2-pinion carrier, but I bet you have a 4-pinion carrier, being that it's what should be behind a V6. I say this with some authority as mine is similarly mismarked. Mine's G292, but I do have the 4-pinion carrier, so it should be G294.

This will be important for buying gears, you'll need to know for sure whether or not it's a 2 or 4-pinion, to order the correct ones.

4.88s are and ideal match for 33s and a 5spd.
even if you are getting 31s or 32s i would get 4.88s to have the lower gearing and if you want to go to larger tires you already have the eprfect gearing
