So I have an 86' 22re and I bought a new TPS because my old one was toast and giving me a code 11. Meaning:
1. A/C switch
2. TPS sensor
3. TPS sensor circuit
4. ECU

I hooked up the new one adjusted it and the code 11 went away to give me a code 7 meaning all of the above minus the A/C switch. It seems to be adjusted fine but I have a code for it still. I tested it at the sensor and at the terminals on the plug at the back of the ECU. I received the same readings. The meter was set at 20K. Off the top of my head these are the ones I can remember:

VTA-E2- .19
Vcc-E2- 5.93

Also, I unplugged the Ecu and the neg. battery terminal and left it like that last night. I hooked it up today got the same readings and still the code 7. The part number for the sensor is as follows.

The brand is BWD, the number is EC3149.

Any ideas?

having the same problem with a frends 91. tryed 3 diff ones and still nuthin. just got back from the parts store and orderd a new one. 96.52 and itll be here in the morn. hope it works! idk what ur prob could be. if it runs good then id just run it like that. but thats me. hope you figure her out!

huh mine was $76. I dunno. Maybe the sold me a bad sensor. I just don't want to hook the throttle body up until that code goes away. Does anyone have a clue. Here's a link to the sensor.

proper etiquette dictates you don't "bump" a thread until after 24 hours pass.
you may get a "pass" on that if it's a situation that requires immediate attention.

have you adjusted the tps ? you know you have to adjust it right ?

Make sure your throttle stop is set properly, to set it turn the screw until it contacts the throttle lever, then 1/4 turn more and its set, tighten the lock nut down, I went a tiny bit more to account for wear.. The FSM for my truck says to use a .47mm feeler gauge at the throttle stop to set it the IDL/E2 circuit.

at .57mm it should have continuity
at .85 it should have no continuity(open/infinite)


Seems to be working now, if I jump the diagnostic port the timing changes

no more codes on mine, using the same old TPS, also had a major vacuum leak at the EGR pipe. Its still not running right though. This will be the last 22RE I ever own thats for sure, the carbureted engines are so much simpler.

For some clarification on the codes-

11 is "Switch Signal", meaning one or more of the following: a/c switch is on when jumper was inserted, clutch switch is on when jumper was inserted, TPS IDL/E2 open when jumper was inserted. The first two are pretty easy to fix- turn the a/c off and/or make sure the clutch switch is open and the clutch start cancel switch hasn't been activated. The latter may be caused by a faulty or mis-adjusted TPS or the throttle is being held open for some reason. If everything appears okay, then it could be wiring or ECU.

7 is "TPS Sensor Signal" and means that the ECU is not getting the throttle position reading from the TPS VTA terminal. Could be caused by faulty TPS, faulty wiring or faulty ECU.

Out of curiousity, do you have any voltage on the VCC wire to the TPS with the key on?
Are all the terminals clean and firmly inserted in the plug to the TPS?

no big i didn't realize it was poor etiquette. Although it turns out the second TPS was bad as well so I exchanged it for a third one today, adjusted it and hooked it up. The code went away and the truck starts better now but... when I slowly raise the rpm's and hold it at two thousand it they drop and a raise back up again over and over. When I unplug the TPS is revs fine so I imagine the TPS is the culprit. Is this normal for an out of adjustment TPS.
