New member. Clean 86 extra cab.

Hello all!!

I recently picked up a very clean 1986 extra cab as I have needed a truck for quite some time. I have two wagons (I am obsessed) but needed more for general hauling. I was always a huge Nissan guy having owned 2 mint 85-86 Nissan 720 extra cab sport trucks and 2 87 Nissan Pathfinder SE's. I was searching for another clean 720 but stumbled upon the Toyota and couldn't pass it up. I am a sucker for white.

I have always been an auto enthusiast. I started modding my first car in 95 at the age of 16. I think I have had 20 vehicles in total. My brown 1999 BMW E39 5 series wagon with a 500hp/500 ft lbs GM LSx 427 7.0 with a Tremec Magnum T56 6 speed is my pride and joy but I really enjoy this truck as well.

I don't know much about the truck as I bought it from an AZ dealer and had it shipped to VA. It's in remarkable shape given the age and 290k miles. It has been re-painted but the work is quality. It has no rust except some minor surface in the floor of the bed that can easily be grinded and por 15'd before having it lined. The underside/engine bay and interior are unmolested and look original to the truck. Only the suspension was modded. I imagine there is a good chance the PO is on this forum.

Here are some photos. I am looking forward to continue making this truck as close to perfect as possible and learning a lot from this forum.

Thanks, everyone!!! I absolutely love it. The 22r is so much nicer than that garbage 8 plug motor in the Nissan 720!

I have been debating trying to find some white steelies for it. And even the original style graphics. Usually I prefer modded vehicles but I kind of want this to look as original as possible.

Here are some photos of my previously owned Nissan's.

Ha. I had to comment on the store. I got lost about 30 years ago trying to go from Midlothian to Matoaca late at night and passed it a couple of times. I live in Hanover and can't believe that store is still there. I think it was abandoned then. You should check out the Facebook page "abandoned in Virginia."

I love your new truck.

Thanks, all! Interesting on the seat. My wife and I thought that was the funniest part of the truck. Not sure why someone would have chosen that fabric for re-upholstery. I guess b/c it could pass as original being so ugly. The blue interiors in my 720's were terrible yet so mint that it made them sort of cool.

Awesome that there are so many local VA members on here!! I will check out that site.

Love the E34. Nice and clean. I sold mine to build the E39 wagon. The E34 was in Bimmer mag 2 months ago with a 3 page spread. It had a turbo M52 with S52 cams along with a whole ton of other goodies.

Also including some photos of the 510 I sold a few years ago, the VW MKI cabriolet I totally built myself for the wife and the 240 my dad and I restored. He actually has 5 mint S30's!

72 Datsun 510 with Rebello L20 (bored and stroked to 2.3)

Here is one of my ole man's Datsun 240z's that we restored. Took 2nd at the Nationals in Atlanta this year.

My dad's collection.

Thanks!! I am a bit OCD

My tail lights are two different colors. Can anyone tell me where I can get the correct lighter lens OEM replacement? I am also looking for all new windshield seals/trim, the metal clips that mount the window squeegees to the doors and a driver side door seal.

I sold the white E34 2 years ago but I had it for 7 years prior and used to go to every cars and coffee. My wife and I just built a house with a 3 car and ceiling height for a 4 post lift which I can't wait for. I want to try and make the Toyota as like new as possible. I am so glad I got it instead of another Nissan. I couldn't be happier.

It does need a few things though. The front diff seems to be leaking a bit and there is some sweating around the transfer case seals. When I am going into a hard right turn, the left front wheel sounds like the bearing is going out. I also imagine the clutch might need to be replaced before too long. If I do all that, I may just pull a lot of the suspension etc and clean/paint/powdercoat/undercoat a bunch of it.

It appears the head was recently off as everything is really clean and most of the upper hoses seem to have been replaced. I love that none of the wiring has been hacked at all. I do have a hard time starting it when cold but I believe that is the fast start injector from what I have been reading.

Welcome!

Sweet truck. I love 2nd gen xcabs. I really like the LS wagon too. A friend has a 68 510 and a 73 Z so it's always cool to see those.

Nice work!
