New (to me) 94 4Runner (Pics posted)
I picked up a 94 4Runner here locally Thursday night. I had been looking to get another 4Runner since I sold my 97 so needless to say I am pretty happy with it. It is just a basic SR5 with the 3.0 and AT but only has 131K on the odometer. The paint is a little faded on the hood and top but it has no body damage to speak of. It does have or has had an oil leak of some sort as I can see the lower components of the passenger side suspension have some oil on them. It runs well, 4wd works and shifts in and out fine as does the transmission. I will update this thread with pics as soon as it warms up a little outside and the ice melts.
Here is what I have planned for it in the next few weeks or so..
4Crawler BJ Spacers in front
LC Coils in rear
1" RB Body Lift
4 new shocks
33" MT tires
New wheels (hopefully I can find some nice stockers)
TG sliders
Lock Rite in the rear
Surco roof rack w/Hella lights
Hopefully I can have front and rear bumpers as well but that may be this Spring.
Ideas, suggestions, and or criticism welcomed!

I will get some pics up this week if I get off before dark. I plan to order my lift components tomorrow (BJ spacers, diff drop, panhard drop, 1" BL, LC coils)as well as new shocks and longer brake line. Any suggestions for which shocks to get? How about where to get the longer brake line?

BJ Spacers and Panhard drop bracket has been ordered. I will be picking up the LC coils today so all I need now is to figure out which shocks to get and get an extended brake line. I am thinking to get the Pro Comp ES9000 shocks for 4" lift all the way around....I have read that is the way to go. Could someone confirm? Where is the best place to get an extened brake line? Thanks in advance.
Pics coming today in it's pitiful current form..it really looks bad riding on the pizza cutters and chrome wheels.

Just a little update as if anyone cared right?
BJ Spacers, Panhard bracket, LC coils, and shocks (Pro Comp ES3000 4" lift)have all arrived. I just need to get my rear brake line and I will be ready to lift.
Now I just need to make a decision on wheels. I am thinking the Pro Comp Series 98 16x8 (black) and go with a 285/75/16 instead of a 33" on a 15" wheel. Suggestions?

Here is a few crappy cell phone pics the day after I brought it home and parked it at the farm. I know it looks bad right now but it will look much better after the lift and paint work.
The mud on the fender is from the field when I was testing the 4x4. It is amazing how much it took to get this thing to spin in 4wd..even in the mud and snow.

I have a 94 as well. The oil leak is from the valve cover gastket. I just fixed mine over the weekend. I had leaks in two places. One, the driver bearing cap. The other was from the passenger rear (closest to the firewall). The under side of the truck was coated with oil. It took me a year to figure out and research.
Search for Valve cover replacement. Here is a great post by Yodar

Yeah, keep us informed of your progress. I would love to hear about it. I was just thinking of selling my 94 4X4, but you are giving me second thoughts.
Right now, Im trying figure out how to fix the rear sagging issue. I dont like that it tilts to the rear. Your truck doesn't seem to be doing that.

I changed jobs and had to have a vehicle that was more practical for my work. I really liked and miss the 97 but at the time it was just not the best choice for me. It was also my DD and I was always nervous everytime I took it wheeling. I don't think the 94 will replace my 97 but hopefully it will surfice until I can pick up another 3rd gen.

I am still trying to decide on wheels and tires for this thing. Here are my options that I am considering now...
Cragar Soft 8 16x7 w/4" backspace or
Pro Comp 16x8 w/4.25" backspace
I can get the Cragar's for a little over $100 cheaper for 5 but I am not sure about a 16x7 in these steel wheels? Keep in mind I will be running a 285/75/16or maybe even a 265/75/16 MT tire with which ever of the wheels I choose. I would like to get these ordered as soon as I can make a decision so any help is appeciated. Advice? Thanks in advance.

well since you're auto, you might wanna go with the 265's...althought you did say it's not your DD...so you could go to 285's LoL
with the wheels..hmm..well in case you wanted to go to a wider tire, you could go with the 16x8's lol it's really not that big of a difference..lol

sounds like you'e got a great plan so far. I have the same lift setup using rancho 5000 series, lockrite out back and 33 x 12.5 mt's With my auto its kinda a dog even with 4.88's but in reality it does the speed limit just fine and crawls well in 4lo. They arent power houses or sports cars to start with.
Oh and you might rub the running boards abit when flexing. I would still have mine but they got too rusty and i pulled em off.

I saw on the news that the FJ is going out of production. That sucks. Even worse, I got a mailer from Toyota featuring the new 5th gen 4R. OMG, what have they done to it? It looks like a 4wd Escalade.
I really wish Toyota would consider going back to the smaller and more capable 1st/2nd 4Rs. All they needed was an updated power plant and maybe a SA option. A 1st gen with a SA and diesel option would rock.

Just a little update here.
Running boards and mud flaps have been.. BJ spacers and LC coils as well as four new shocks, panhard drop bracket, and extended brake line have all been installed. Tires and wheels will be here Thursday. I ended up going with the Maxxis Bighorn tires and 16x7 w/4" BS Cragar Soft 8 wheels. I will get some better pics when I get the wheels and tires installed but in the meantime here are some really crappy cell pics to laugh at with the lift and the 225's.
***pics on page 2***
I know they are really bad but I promise I will get some better ones with the camera after I get the wheels and tires installed.

I am not sure what I want to do next. The truck needs some paint on the hood as well as the top but it is going to be hard for me to pay to have that done when I want so much other stuff. With that said I would like you guys input on what you would do next..
body work and paint
TG rock sliders
custom front bumper
Smittybuilt XRC10 winch
custom rear bumper with swing out tire carrier
Safari rack w/Hella lights
rear locker
What do you think?
