I plan on replacing my clutch/rear main/tranny input seal sometime this summer. The clutch does not slip yet (unless I get stuck), but I could smell it on 3 different occasions this week. Also, my rear main leaks worse than a redneck's exhaust. While in there I figured I may as well do the tranny input seal. I have the seals through Carquest, but I am not sure on what clutch to get. Keep in mind that money does not grow on trees in Wisconsin.

I have looked into Marlin Crawler Clutch kits. They have the regular and HD, prices are $179 and $199.

I have also looked into Centerforce I (dual friction is not appropriate or cheap). They want $295 plus the throwout bearing and alignment tool. (They never mentioned Pilot bearing?)

Napa had three available. Reman, Diaphram, and regular. The prices for these were $169, $194, $255. (What is the diaphram version?)

Another option is the Daikin-Exedy. Are these any good? I have found a kit for $147, but a friend of mine has one that he would sell me for $70. He said it is in the original packaging. It came with the p.o.s. '89 he bought that he has since sold.

I wheel occasionally, but nothing too hard core (once a month or so), and I also plow snow periodically.

What clutch would you guys recommend?

Am I missing anything?

i havent had problems running a centerforce1 clutch in both my 4runners one was replaced in 02 and the other was replaced in 05

i run a centerforce II and it's been working great, the 81 we put in the marlin HD and the engagement is much harsher on the marlin

I ordered a Marlin HD for my 4runner 2 weeks ago and am still waiting for it so I can put my truck back together. I am looking forward to driving a nice smooth truck!

I have heard Exedy is ok. I just got the standard kit from Marlin, it is an Aisin (OEM Toyota).

Jason I really think that you will be very happy with a full Marlin kit.
I recommend ordering the HD clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, and resurfaced flywheel. The parts are optimized for each other, when all of these components are refreshed it feels absolutely great. Nothing beats it, just check out how happy all the marlinclutch owners are! A++ for Marlin HD clutch.

I don't think that is feasible, considering that I am a full time student and father of a 4 month old. Thanks for the info though. I think I will settle on the exedy, now that I know that they are somewhat common. Thanks for all the help guys.

Go with the marlin HD unit. Great clutch kit!

Make sure you get your flywheel resufaced when you replace the clutch. Also take a look at your rear main seal.
