New 456's...need some clarification on the swap

I've got an 89 4runner that came with 410s with stock manual hubs. I picked up a set of front and rear differentials from a 90's model 4runner and the front had ADD with automatic locking hubs. I have the rear 456's in and I am doing the front today but I need some clarification because I read conflicting reports online. If I want to maintain my manual hubs in the front, I have heard all I have to do is switch that tube out from my diff and put it on the new diff. My question is: do I have to purchase anything else or replace anything else for this to work? I've read there may be some kind of gasket that I need but I am not sure.

Right now I plan on buying new gear oil, crush washers for the filler\drain plugs and that's it.

Thanks guys!

You might need a new seal for the axle shaft. That's if you can't just re-use the one that's already on the ADD diff/shaft(say if it's damaged, leaking, or the lip looks well worn like it might soon start), or remove a used one from the non-ADD diff and re-use it. There's actually 2 of the same seals on each. So you have 3 that you can try and remove and/or re-use. The seal needs to be there one way or the other. The axle tube isn't supposed to be full of gear oil.

Here's the diagrams showing where they are on each type.

Here's one already done.

Thanks a heap, MudHippy! That was crazy helpful. I decided to just pick one up at Oreilly's since it was only $8...might as well replace it while I'm in there. That little cog with the needle bearings you had to remove off the ADD one was a nice little surprise. Those needle bearings went everywhere! I'm pretty sure I got them all out with my trusty magnet and I took off the carrier case just to make sure so I should be good to go. Now I'm ready for some snow. This year I have brand new 31" tires, 456 gears and a rear locker so I should have some fun!

Thanks again!
