Toyota hg, w/p, seals, intake gaskets. Also using a new Eb head w/ 268 cam. About 1200 in parts and machining. As others have said Eb rock parts are far from the best but the price and customer service can't be beat.

vote #3. of course, you live in FL. Very happy with the sunwest motor in my rig.

Here is a guy I have bought rebult 3vze from. I have actually drove to his loc. in MD from Philly, about 3 hours, to pick up engine in person. It came with everything ready to be installed ( wp, timing belt, even oil and filter ).
Denny is an owner, he appears to have good amount of knowledge on engine rebuilding.
Give him a call.

Anybody heard of 22re.com? I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with them.

I've been emailing with them for awhile talking about their high performance 22re (which also comes in a kit) and it seems like its a really well built engine.

Here's a compilation of my emails with them:
We been in business since 1993
We use the best quality parts

We don’t have time to hang out on the forums but I am sure they have heard of us at 22re.com

Oe oil pumps aisen
Japanese
Rings
Head gasket
Rods mains thrust
oem timing kits osk
Bolts are all from oe manufactures
Some come straight from Toyota dealer

Keith black has been making pistons for 30-40 years they build drag race stuff

The head on the kb engine is a new aftermarket casting it flows better than stock and is not prone to cracking or electrolysis

We can port and gasket match for an extra 350.00
The compression ratio is upped by the dome (lack of dish) on the piston
They have less of a dome than the stock piston
Kb pistons are hypereutectic they also have a dish that perfectly matches the combustion chamber this improves fuel mileage and horsepower
Mileage is about average with a stock engine I have no way to tell you mileage you will get as there are too many variables

But on average if driven the same will get comparable mileage as a stock engine
If ran hard of course they can burn more fuel

But on a highway trip fuel mileage would be close

This engine is perfect for efi or carbed
It will pass emissions in 49 states
And will even pass in California if they don’t tell them it’s a performance engine they burn clean

The kb engine as we build it runs perfect with a stock ecu
If you upgrade injectors etc it will not keep up
The engine is built to be the biggest it can be with stock ecu and fuel injected

I do not have a dyno sheet on this engine
You will need a good header and good free flowing exhaust to achieve max torque and horsepower

Shipping is about 175.00 on the engine to a business with a loading dock or forklift or will called at the terminal

Add 340 for a weber 38 outlaw man choke kit
With new head
Premium Performance Reman Long Block
9.7-1 Keith Black
Awesome Engine
81 TO 95 165-200 Hp
6 Month warranty
+ $400.00 core charge
$2399.99

This is the kit price you would only save 130.00 bucks without the header
With Header and Weber 38 Outlaw Carb
Premium Performance Reman Long Block Kit
9.7-1 Keith Black
Kit to build above Engine
165-200 Hp
+ $315.00 core charge
$1999.99

Google Keith black pistons if you like to find out more about there company

If you want cheaper Taiwanese parts lots of other companies in the area sell them

We only use the best quality parts available
(they do cost more)
We especially do not use “Rock” brand parts

Thanks
John

if the length of my post didn't relay my attention to detail enough: I'm not going to take your advice without an explanation haha

Why sunwest? I've never heard of them, but I'm willing to listen to your reasoning.

I'm just looking for some more power out of my 22re (which I know is easily attained considering how many people race their old celicas).

iselloil, I live in the Richmond area too. Hanover. Did you install the engine yourself or have a shop do it? Did you have the engine shipped straight to the shop? Can you share the name of the shop? I have a 89 4Runner with 144k on the motor. It's doing fine but I like to have a plan in place just in case. The independent shop my 2000 goes to (occaisionally) has a big ole Jasper decal on the door. I did a search on them and as someone else said they are hit or miss.

22RE.com is claimining HP numbers bewteen 165 & 200. That is not possible on NA 22RE motor. I don't care how much stuff you put on it.

I will tell you from experience...go with 22repreformance. They build a quailty engine and only use OEM parts. I even had them use new Toyota bearings, pistons, rings, crank,...everything. I have had zero problems with the motor. With all parts the same as from the factory, I fully expect to see this thing go for another 200k miles. Does not leak any oil, and does not burn any either.

Here is my thread of the engine to provide visuals of the motor and the attention to details.

I have one of the "upgraded" versions, with steel timing chain guides and a MLS headgasket. I've got about 10,000mi on it so far, and its been great.

Priced a short block at dealership at $2000, get a performance head from engnbldr $536and a new steel back guide timing kit $58, and full gasket kit around $100, and a OEM head gasket for $40 and give or take oil and water pump depends how old they are, Tod said if head bolts are not corroded there reusable or be like me and spend $32 bucks for new ones because 2 were pitted and have then close to $3000 in a good engine and know you have a good motor to last a long time, That is my plan except for head, I'll already have one from them with a 268 torkr cam already...

ATK sucks, worked in independent garage and at dealer for last 15+ years and at least 1 in 5 fails majorly and all of them leak within 6 months.
i built my own but its my line of work. a good book can be purchased at dealer or quality auto parts store and paying attention to your work will give you great satifaction in completing the engine and puting it in the truck yourself.

good luck

I just received my 22r long-block from Sunwest and the quality seems good so far, but it isn't in the truck yet. Here are some pics.
