Exclamation need soome help on my rebuild

alright i gotta replace rings on my 85 22r( its in an 87 4wd) i know, the dumb @$$ that had it before me decided carburatoin is way better than fuel injection, any way im in the proccess of re-inserting the piston in the block and seem to have hit a wall pistons 2 and 3 three went in without a hitch but 1 and 4 seem to stop just before the top compression ring would slide in, its .020 over the bore is 92.30 mm and the rings are 92.25 and there is no scoring or out of round or taper i checked it all and the rods arent hitting anything but for some reason those two pistons wont go in. any help would be appreciated seein as i have work tomorrow and half an engine to get me there

measure from the top of the crank to the top of the bore. with the crank at tdc on #1 and then on #4. Then with bearing in measure from the center of the bearing to the top of the piston. check the nembers these should be close to being the same. Want to rule out different rods.

did you have any machine work done???? machine shop could have mixed up rods.

Outside of that make sure the studs on the bottom of the rods arent hitting the crank when assembling.

do you have the pistons the right way round??offset could also be worng for cylinders... i mean orientation wise.

im not sure the rods would have anything to do with it they dont get anywhere near the crank.

yes the block is bored .020 over and they fixed the chamfer to guide the rings in

and yes again the notches are all facing forward

Are you compressing the rings completely? Seems to me that's the only thing that could stop them from going in is that they are not compressed all the way.
I know when I did my rebuild I had to double check a couple because as they started to slide into the cylinders the rings would pop out of the compressor tool just enough to hang them up and not allow the piston to go completely in just a thought

turns out i was in such a hurry to build the engine that i didnt notice a wave an inch down the jug, it was catchin up on thwe rings and actually folded a couple, i ended up (unfortunately) having to rebuild another motor until i can get this one punched out more to clean up the jugs
