need quick help, truck wont start
its a 1992 4runner v6 5-speed
drove it home last night, everything was fine, the outside temp was about -18'C. this morning the temp is -10'c and the truck was plugged in (block heater). This truck has started every time with no problems for the past 2 weeks and the temp has been on average -25'c. it even started fine at -30'c without being plugged in.
so today the truck started, thought everything was normal, then all of a sudden it choked out and died. check engine light is on. after it choked out I tried to crank it, and it cranks but no spark.
-disconnected the battery for a few mins, reconnected and tried again.. engine turns over but not sparking
-pulled the EFI fuse and waited for a few mins and tried to turn it over.. truck turns over, i can tell it gets spark because it sputters for 2 seconds and dies. it will only do this twice, and then it doesnt spark at all.
-Haynes manuel says to read the code i attach a jumper wire to ports T and E on the "check engine" harness located by the ignition coil.. I cant find where this is located. I have a "diagnostic" port right by the fuse box on the pass side by the battery. but this port has a few T's and a few E's marked.
.....so where do I put this jumper wire?
I cant get a ride to the parts store right now, otherwise I would be purchasing a code reader right now. I'm assuming my 1992 would be OBD1 ??? is that right?
thanks for any help.

ok I got "1 pause 4" which in my book is code#14 "ignition signal"
diagnosis says "NO IGf signal to ECU 6-8 times in succession"
trouble areas "ignitor and ingition coil circut"
"ignitor and ignition coil"
...before i put the jumper wire in, i out the EFI fuse back in, tried to start it at wide open throttle.. it sputterd for a second or two and then let out the loudest backfire I've ever heard haha sounded like a gunshot.

So the ignition coil and ignitor are located right behind the airbox, correct?
I checked the connections on both these parts and no corrosion or loose connections.
Both of these parts are still the Toyota origionals, so I guess my next move is to head out to get a new coil and ignitor...??

the code is "IGF signal not received by ECU for 6 consecutive events"
IGF means "I Got Fire"- the ignitor is able to detect if a plug fires properly.
In your case the engine started running (albeit not properly) then badly misfired 6 times in a row, likely due to whatever's causing the engine to die.
Possible causes- open or short in wiring from ignitor to ecu, ignitor or ecu.
I'd check the connectors around the ignitor for any contamination from water or corrosion, etc. It's possible some condensation in the connectors may be causing an issue. Maybe try disconnect the plugs and heat/dry them with a hair drier.

yes the coil and ignitor are behind the airbox- follow the center wire from the distributor cap over to the fender: it goes to the coil which should be on the same bracket with the ignitor

its running!!! wow, abecedarian I owe you man! I took off the electrical connector on the ignitor, and there it was, a little pool of water in the center pin! used my heat gun and compressed air from my lungs to clean it all out... pulled out the EFI fuse for a few mins, put it all back together and she fired up no problem!
thanks guys for your help!
