need opinions
Hello to all.. this is my first post and my 4th toyo. I have no pics yet because my truck is already at the shop! I know at 200k miles that is the risk you take so oh well!! Anyway looking for opinions on the 3vze. Low compression on cylinders 3 & 6. Guess it needs the heads rebuilt.. At this point better to do entire motor? I do not want to do 3.4 swap. Not looking to go fast. Other than DOA Racing anyone else offer any type of performance head work? Is porting even worth it? Sorry for the long first post...

Porting not worth it headers not worth it cams not worth it. Even if you did all three and got a buy one get 2 free still not worth it.
Lets say your oppossed to a 3.4 swap. You go throwing money at the 3.0 youll run up the same bill and still have a alot less motor.
Fix your head gaskets have your heads surfaced and go again if you dont want the 3.4

Probably right about wasting excess money on the 3.0, it will never be a performance motor. The truck is at a mechanic that I know and trust. He has not done anything to it yet other than check the entire truck out.

The Bureau of Automotive Repair, which has jurisdiction over C.A.R.B. (California Air Resource Board) and runs the "referee" program here in Cali for those special circumstances such as engine swaps, and they will make you jump through hoops (at your expense) to prove your vehicle is worthy.
$1000's could be spent just to get a vehicle "legal" going that route, the route necessary for approving swapping 5VZE into a 3VZE chassis.
Is fixing up the ol' betsy not looking like the cheaper option now?

I just focused in on the end of his post when he was asking about performance upgrades headwork on the 3.0 im on my second 3.0 and have driven a worked one (bolt on stuff) headers intake egr delete exhaust etc. Couldnt tell a noticable difference other than sound. In my opinion theres a vast void between a stock 3.0 and 3.4 and trying to play catch up isnt cost effective. I didnt notice the op location. Instead of trying to help my 3.o on the inside i took the money that would have bought engine upgrades and helped it out with a set of gears and a locker and will keep dreaming of a 3.4

Spun a rod barren in my 3.0. Ordered a brand hammer new one from advance. 30k later low compression. Blew head gasket and it had a miss I cannot get rid of. Even after new heads still misses

Update: motor is torn down. heads are getting fixed. no upgrades! truck needs a new radiator and inner cv boot. timing belt is in great condition so are the rest of the parts. everything that has been replaced was with toyota parts. I will be putting on a set of LC Engineering headers because at this point if I want them now is the time. I will post pictures when I take the headers the mechanic that is working on the truck. Also the knock sensor wire will be replaced. It came off no problem. Everything else seems to be ok.
