need an new antenna
anyone know where i can get a new antenna (i guess its a power antenna?) for my 87 4runner, i checked on ebay, and local junkies with no luck. thanks.

I bought a new one from Advance Auto Parts. When I first got my truck, the mount on it was broken inside the fender and it leaned off to the side and drover me nuts. I got a new mount to the fender, and a new antenna for right about $14! Of caurse mine's isn't power, but their worth a try. And talk about a PITA to install...

I just bought an antenna mast from the dealer here in Houston for about 40 bucks. You could also get one from Antennamastsrus.com, for about 35 plus shipping. However, I gotta warn you, doing this job is not easy, it took me about 2 hrs; this was with a crew from a shop that took the whole unit out of the body. I then took it all apart, and replaced, and put back together.
First, you HAVE TO WATCH HOW EVERYTHING COMES APART, INCLUDING WHERE WASHERS GO!!!! Then, there is a going to be a black, nylony, rubbery, thingy that will be all crudded up, stuck in the last bit of the mast, down at the bottom.
You gotta dig, and pull all that crud out of there, because your new mast will have it's power cord, and near the bottom will be about a 2 inch long , fatter piece of this stuff, that pressure fits into the bottom , exactly replacing what you just pull out. I had to disass, then reass, twice, because you gotta put stuff back in , in the right order. Lastly , you willnot be able to round feed the motor area, with your power feed tubing, all the way , by hand. You will get in about half, then you need to put it back down in the assy., like an upside down clam shell, and twist by hand, and as you twist, it will pull down, and in , the rest of the power cable.
Lastly, you hands will be full of goop, keep some rags handy. and when you put it back in, DON'T!!!! just hook up the power, and hold it in your hands.
have someone go inside cab, and flip switch, to make sure it goes all the way up , and down, several times.

the fat white cylinder part, at the end of the teeth, will pressure fit, into the fat part of the back of that antenna base, that you see right there, as you put it back together, in the motor mount case. also , if you get one from toyota, it will not have teeth, and lastly, if you still have the factory entire assy., you cannot just pull up all the guts, with the cable. it is held inside, in place, by a little clip in pressure bar, that fits to the underside of the clamshell. You may be able to pull this out, without removing or loosening, the bar, but you will never get the new cable started in there, without doing some nice, problematic, hair bending, feeding of the end tip, through the little hole that the cable is supposed to go through, all the while under that little pressure bar.

oh yeah, I debated back and forth, on doing this job, or getting Toyota dealer to do it, after I bought the piece. I finally went by Yota dealer to find out what they charge, to do this exact same job. 200 bucks!!!!
I decided, though i am no car guy, but work on tiny electronic dohickies all the time, to tackle this myself. Have yourself one big Phillipshead, a nice pair of smallish needlenose, and a small flatblade screwdriver handy, and one small Phillipshead as well.
