Need help with oil leak from transfer case area

It's been about a month since I've tried cleaning what appears to be gear oil from the undercarriage around the transfer case area. At first, I found that the speedometer cable nut was loose which I figured was the culprit, which I tightened up... Well this evening while checking the u-joints and driveshaft I found the area to be 'wet' with oil. I'm at a loss to diagnose where the oil is coming from, I checked the speedo cable, its tight and the output shaft doesn't appear to be wet and from how far the oil is being dispersed it puzzling... I've attached a few pics and I'm hopeful that someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

Clean it as best you can.

Then look again

A clogged breather will cause gear oil to be pushed out as pressure builds from the heat

It is gear oil not engine oil ??

Is that undercoating sprayed all over everything ??

Thanks. Its hard to see in the pics but there is an oily film over everything. Its gear oil, its very clean and has that distinctive gear oil smell. The black that appears to be undercoating is the result of years of oil and dirt. Where is the breather located?

Thanks.

Breather is on top of case access through the floor by removing the Shifter boots

I need to look to be 100% sure

If the case and Transmission has been removed and not sealed correct it can get pushed out the Top

The output seal can wear out .

If the O ring on the speedometer shaft is worn or damaged that can leak

I just ran into this recently: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...r-case-296491/

I linked to another thread in that post: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...l-leak-253488/

A mechanic found my forward axle seal was leaking really badly. But I'd check the breather first. I don't think my breather is bad, but I don't know for sure. They sure are important, and ideally, would be checked if any leaks are found. Pressure that builds up can make the best of seals leak if they aren't meant for it.

Since I'm seeing any oil from the front diff or the output from the xfer case I'm going to assume its the breather. This weekend I'll take a look under the shifter boots and take a look. Thanks for all the pointers.

This weekend I went under the truck once again and found a light film of oil on the underside. Per sega01 I removed the shifter boots and checked the breathers, which I'm not sure how to tell if their plugged... They moved freely and I ultimately tried cleaning up the area around the breathers. While I was under the truck I did notice there seemed to be more oil coming from around the speedo housing, (see pics) looking at the FSM, I couldn't tell if there is an o-ring that I can replace.

Another question, Is there supposed to be that much grease coming from under the shifter boot?

Thanks in Advance.

TTT.

Hadn't seen any replies so I'll check once more. On the pic for the speedometer cable housing where it attaches to the case, are there o-ring(s) I can replace?

Thanks in advance.
