need help going to burn it.

Think my fuel pump may be going out. If you pull the return line off the pressure regulator, should gas come out? I can pull it off with it running and nothing comes out. I have a bogging issue and have tried everything else. Thanks.

I'll elaborate a little more. I have replaced the throttle position sensor per factory specs 3 times I have put an entirely different intake on it new plugs wires cap and rotor bug along with changed the AFM clean the IACV changed the computer changed the coolant temperature sensor and the fuel pressure regulator. but problem is it will run ok but sometimes you can hold it between a quarter throttle and three quarter throttle and it will just sit there and bog I also have no power and can only go about 60 miles per hour it's an 88 pick up with a 22re 5 speed 4 wheel drive it has 33 inch tires but it should still go over 60 miles per hour it just runs out of power especially at full throttle. It actually has more power right around a quarter throttle than it does at full

Was it just an over sight you did not mention the fuel filter??

Need more back Story ??

New to you ??

Has this ever worked like you think it should?

Mileage ??

compression test results??

Timing ??

Check the fuel pressure??

I have a tired 4Runner I would be happy to hit 60mph coming off a big mountain.

These are not Top Fuel Funny Car engines a little over 100 horse power.

Fuel filter is a big overlooked cause of problems like wyoming said.

Timing is also easy to check, and adjust (Which can cause bogging)

Emissions components have a tendency to plug and cause ill effects.

Couldnt hurt to check your o2 sensor and clean the soot, and whatever else may be on it.

Pull the plugs and inspect them, they are a tell all of whats happening in each cylinder. If you have bad rings you should be able to tell by oil on the plugs. If its running to lean the plugs will be white, black if running rich ect. ect.

Also like wyoming stated, these are not race cars, 33's are a big job for the little 22r with stock gears. Most people running larger than stock tires regear in order to achieve highway speeds.

Yea forgot to say replaced filter for fuel and air. Checked ignition and can timing. Sometimes it will pull a hill by my house in 5th and gain speed and other times I can't gain speed in 3rd. I guess my main question is there supposed to be fuel coming out of the return line? Or how exactly does the pressure regulator work?

Also are the eBay fuel pumps any good? There on there for like 20 bucks with a lifetime warranty.

do you really want to wait a week+ turn around and pay shipping to send a fuel pump back?

Even if it works for a week and fixes my issue at least I'll know. Then I can go buy a good one.

Does anyone know the answer? is gas supposed to come out of the return line when its running?

On my 7mge it would flow out of the regulator at idle. From what I understand and have been told, it returns fuel dependent on engine load. Thats why they have the vacuum port.

I bought a TCY fuel pump off of ebay for $30 and its been working great for several months now. I couldnt see dropping $160 for a denso.

You might try spraying carb cleaner through a vac port while it is bogging down. Depending on whether you can get it to bog while your under the hood or not. If it revs up when you do this then your prob it certainly fuel related.

An air leak will cause those symptoms. Check your air hose connection from the air box to the Plenum and all other places for an air leak.

If you have removed the fuel return line from the rear of the fuel rail and you are not getting fuel out of it, you have a bad pump, clogged fuel filter or clogged line. It should put out a quart of fuel in about a minute or so. It pumps a lot of fuel out quickly. I have used 10 ebay fuel pumps on 10 different trucks and never have had a problem. They work great for me. I would also be willing to bet your fuel return line is clogged just for a heads up. The fuel systems in these trucks is really nasty.

A killer for the fuel pumps is a clogged return line and running the tank less then an 1/8 of a tank as fuel is what keeps the pump cool. I very seldom let mine go below 1/4 tank.

Yes it should be putting out fuel out the return line when it is running. Forget to hook it up and you will find out fast. Ask me how I know? lol

awesome man I appreciate it that has to be my problem. the return line was collapsed so it probably burnt my pump up. pump should be here in a few days so here's hoping.
