Need Help!!! Drastic Pulsating Idle 22re

Hello All,

I have a 94' Yota 4x4 5spd with a 22re. I threw a rod through the block so I had to replace the engine. I bought a long block from junk yard and used my original wiring harness with the new motor (Just pulled all wiring through the firewall from the ecu) we took pictures of everything and checked everything 3 times... Set timing to 5* and the engine fired right up..However, the idle races wildly up and down and will not settle. We swapped out tps from old motor but had to splice (different plug) and it still does the same thing. The only thing that makes it idle smooth is forcing the butterfly closed with the throttle on the side of the TB. When you give it gas it just cuts out... This is a mud truck so I'm not trying to dump a lot of money into it. Trying to get it ready for Labor Day weekend but it's not looking good! Your time is greatly appreciated!

If your engine is a different year it is highly possible your tps is not the correct one. The easiest solution is to swap the entire throttle body from your old engine onto the new one. do not take the tps off. otherwise youll have to adjust it.

Rog, The replacement (junkyard) motor was out of a 91' and my truck is a 94' so that makes sense because the plugs on each TPS is different (why we had to splice wires). It's a little late for that now because we have removed them (TPS) from each motor and swapped them. I will try and swap the TPS back to the original TB and put that TB on the new motor... Hopefully that will work! Thank you for the quick reply!

We swapped out the entire intake manifold with no luck. The truck is still doing the same thing. When we unplug the TPS and force the throttle down the truck seems to idle fine and rev fine... However as soon as I plug the TPS in, the idle immediately starts surging again and will not rev without hitting fuel cut (that's what we think is happening)

Looking for any ideas as I only have 3 days to get this thing going, thanks!

I'm not 100% sure on that one... Right now I have the TPS unplugged and tape over the hole inside the TB leading to the IACV and it runs great... idles a little high around 1,500rpms but seems to run fine and smooth throttle response??? Very puzzled...
