Thumbs down Need Help with 22RE

Hi I am in need of some help I recently purchased a 91 toyota from a friend of mine with the 22re, he said it had jumped time. sure enought the guides had broke and the tensioner had failed. I purchased a timing set and replaced the chain gears tensioner guides put it back together and it wouldn't hit checked the compression it had none so i pulled the motor bought a re-ring kit and rebuilt it put it all back together back in truck and still no compression. I am at a loss. this is my first toyota and i am not sure of what the problem could be i set the time with the keyway on the crank at 12 and the cam at 12 with the bright links on the chain matching up with the marks on the gears. so i am in need of your experience what do you guys think have you heard of this before. a buddy suggested getting a different head but i figured i'd ask the experts first so if you guys can help at all it is appreciated Thanks

I'd start by getting it set at TDC and check your chain again. You can start by using the timing mark on the crank. But remember you can be 180 off real easy.

If you have nothing across all 4 than you have other issues don't think it's the head.

Cam sprocket with Dot and bright link at 12 o'clock/ Crank sprocket with Dot and bright link at 6 o'clock. <If its not that its wrong. If it is that check valves and their clearances. Valves on a 22r are adjusted hot so i hope you didn't so any adjusting with engine cold.

Isn't it off a full turn? I'd give the crank a full turn and try again. I think the lifters on #1 need to be tight.

hey guys thanks 4 the help I may get this thing going yet, about the timing I timed it with the cam up and the crank down so that should be right the valves i didnt mess with just left them how they were i assumed it was runnin like that before. and to test the compression i was actually removing one plug at a time putting a small piece of napkin in the plug hole and spinnin the motor with the starter just to see if it had any but no such luck. I got it up on TDC the way I have it timed now (Mark on 0 and dot on cam at 12) and the lifters on #1 are loose so that is where i am at. I appreciate the help I am a newbie at owning and workin on a toyota and am sorry if i am havin some stupid questions but u gotta learn like i said any help is appreciated

The dot on the cam should be a little left of center... barely.
The crank should be at 0
the number one cylinder "the valves nearest the cam sprocket" should be barely loose.

Buy a $20 compression gauge and test it.

It jumped timing?
Did you check to see if you have any bent valves?
The 22re is an interference engine.
