LCE makes a great header. i have the stainless steel header for my 22re and it bolted right on, and they have great customer service. Downey i believe makes a header, it's just everybody i talked to swore by LCE and now i see why. it is a tough choice, so good luck.

I had a Doug Thorley on my 82 Hilux 22r... Over 300,000km and no cracks or leaking. Towed an 18' flat-bottom dragboat all over BC with a small Camperette on the truck. Had 5 transmissions replaced under warranttee... Those were the days...

I've been in the custom exhaust industry for a while and 400 bucks is a decent deal. Most places will determine their prices based on the amount of power increase provided. If yer looking for something cheaper, you might just go down to the salvage yard and grab another manifold.

A lot of people are pointing me toward thorley. Is there more than one for the 4runner 22re? Any model numbers?

I've got a Thorley on my 82. It works great. I did notice a difference in the low end and mid range. I haven't had it that long but it has not given me any problems. Got it this time last year. It is well built and you can get it ceramic coated as well. Mine has no emissions stuff on it at all but you can get it with the o2 sensor bung in it and that heat thing that goes to the carb intake for the hot air.

What sort of modifications will I have to make? Or does it just like a glove?

Thorley is definitely the way to go if you're thinking aftermarket header. However, if you read this article, you will find that as far as power adders, the stock manifold is pretty good!
Quote:
Also, the Thorley just bolts on up. I've talked to several people who have installed the tri-y and they all say it fit like a glove. Obviously you are going to have to do some welding for the pipe, and you will need to bolt up to the header. |
