Hey guys, im new here. iv been lurking around for a while. i have a few questions

i bought a 1987 4runner in rough shape and im still trying to figure out all the broken parts. there is a button on the dash on the left of the stering wheel that i cant figure out what it does. when you push it on it stays on untill you shut the key off. does anyone know what this is? or maybe its custom.

My other question- there are two hoses on the driver side of the engine bay, they are just sitting there. they are close to the heater hoses that go into the cab.. could these be the heater hoses for the rear heater? i tride to get a picture but its dark too dark out. im thinking they are for the rear heater, ok so how would i hook them back up, could i just tap into the heater line for the front heater ?

question #1- clutch cancel switch. let's you start the truck without pressing down the clutch. turn the key to 'on', press the switch, then turn the key to start.

question #2- don't know. I don't have the rear heater. be patient, someone will chime in with the answer.

The switch is the decklight for the rear cargo area. You have to have the lights on for it to work.
The hoses..No idea. There are a ton of hoses in the engine bay. Pictures would help

edit: Abe is probably right about the CCS........

edit-edit: I think it IS the deck light switch....Mine has a yellow/orange dot thingy on it like that one. I don't remember seeing the CCS in my '88. I'm sure its there, I just haven't noticed it yet.

Yeah, decklight switch, the light should be on the driver side in the rear above the rear wheel well. There is a switch on the light too so it might not be on on the light itself.

congrats abecedarian you are correct!

i went outside and pushed the button and turned the key, without my foot on the clutch and it turned over. cool. iv never had such luxury.
if it was a switch for a light i dont think it would work any ways, since all the lights are burnt out.

it does, it high enough for me, i think i am going to design a little step to get in, because right now i have to do a little jump to get in, and then the back of my pants get dirty.

im thinking about maybe getting some kind of sheet, maybe of rubber, to cover the gaping space on the inside of the rear wheels

I like the look of that runner! 4" BL is a lot, IMO. People usually caution about going over 3".....
Where did you get that basket? or what brand is it?

If you measure the body pucks I bet they're only 3"... You can do more but it would be a custom lift. At least I've never seen 4" pucks in a manufactured kit...

I really like the look of that basket. I have a Thule rack on my '88, but I was thinking I could rig some kind of basket on top of those, plus some mounts for my lights.

oh ya, you could easily weld up one like this, its just small angle iron. with a good mig set up it would be niiice.

as for the wheel well gaps, look towards www.4crawler.com because roger had the same problem with his 3" BL... his site is chock full of great info...
in fact, i go over there sometimes when im bored and re-read everything...
