Mystery plugs my wire harness where do they go

92 toyota pickup 4x4 5spd 22re short bed. Bazillion miles.

I have been rebuilding this 92 pickup for quite some time and been running into numerous problems. Mainly because it has taken me about a year so far. However I am close to the finish. A brief history before I ask the pertinent question. I bought this truck with the intention and knowledge that it would likely require loads of work. It was spewing oil everywhere and at some point, created such a smoke screen that I could not see what or who was behind me, like an officer for instance. Anyway, I pulled the tranny and engine and started the teardown. I took it to the bare block. I had that decked and bored and started the reconstruction. It basically needed and got everything new minus the connecting rods. The head was shot, and the auxiliaries had 250,000 miles on them. Replace it all, right? So, as I was working, I noticed the some things don't match and there is a paper in my glovebox describing the engine swap that was done 75,000 miles ago with a different one from a different year. No big deal. I think. With the exception that I could break down a majority of this engine with my fingers. Seriously, super loose. Not a gasket to be found either. Whoever was in here before did not care about torque specs or a tight non-leaking engine. I have it all built up and mounted in the truck and it is nearly finished. However, there are two plugs on the wire harness that don't have a home, anywhere. Unless it is something I just cant see. My thought after looking for several hours over many days is that this might be a california truck. No rust on the body or frame and it was purchased in Indiana. We are the king of salt usage. It makes me think the truck came from somewhere else. They have different emissions regulations if I am not mistaken. Is it possible that this potentially California built truck has a non-california engine and these mystery plugs went to some sort of different system that is not part of this particular build?

This one that I am holding was all bundled up and tied to the rest of the harness. I undid it to help aid with the threading of everything.

Another view...

And this one just plain doesnt have anything to go into it. What does it do? It may have never had anything in it before. I cannot remember as I took this engine out a year ago. We are looking at the empty plug just between the fuel line and the oil filter.

Any help would be appreciated. I am not a mechanic. I am an historical home restoration specialist (fancy title for carpenter). This is a bit out of my realm, though I know I can learn and retain this. I just don't want to screw something up if I can be avoided. Again, thanks for any and all responses.

The bottom picture should be your Knock Sensor. The plugs on the 84-88 are a different style then the 89-95 models so I dont recognize what those plugs go to. Maybe a bump to the top will help you.

Thanks for the reply. I went and visited a very helpful toyota mechanic for the dealer here in town and boy, did he hook me up. He did not know what the mystery plug at the top of the engine is but he did confirm for me that yes, that is the knock sensor. He also confirmed for me that the stray wire I have coming out of the harness is likely the wire that goes to this sensor. If I have everything already hooked up but have one single wire without an end, it probably goes there. The knock sensor has a glorified spade connector that uses a single wire. Mine likely broke some time ago and nobody ever bothered to fix it. Anyway, the way in which he hooked me up restored some of my faith in human decency. He went back to the shop and grabbed the original 92 pickup shop manuals. He said, "Here, use these as long as you like" If I cant figure out what goes on the end of that plug through this manual i have bigger problems. He also offered to help me by getting him my vin number and block number and he will call California to possibly confirm my idea of this perhaps not having anything attached to this plug due to it being a Cali truck with a non-Cali engine. Most helpful guy ever.
If you are ever in the Lafayette, Indiana area and need a parts guy for your truck, look up John over at Bob Rohrmans toyota.

The wire to the Knock Sensor is notorious for breaking and also causing knock sensor codes. They have changed the plugs so much from the earlier generation that I dont know which one it is. If I recall right, on the earlier model it is a single yellow wire.

That is pretty amazing. The single wire with nothing on it is yellow. I will keep this thread updated as I sort stuff out. Hopefully it can be a help for someone else in the future, though this is a little difficult to do a search on something like this.
