Mysterious missing parts, and parts that shouldnt be there.
I was doing standard maintenance to my truck after i bought it like the fuel filter and vacuum hoses and such. So when i was trying to hook up the proper hoses, the shop manual i had was putting the hoses in the resonator, the as reed valve, and the VTV. They weren't where they were in the pictures or diagrams. Its a repair manual for 88' pickups and 4runners but mines an 86'. Could it just be that they are in a different position or they really aren't there? I'm pretty sure i got the stuff fixed but there are just so many random pieces that are just out of place. The engine has been replaced about ten years ago its a 22re 2.4l. When i took it to get looked at its an 86-89 refurbished engine he just couldn't pinpoint the year. I'm sure its been tampered with in one way or another because i found bolts plugging up the old hoses. I was just thinking of replacing the engine anyway because its loosing lots of oil. I went through 4 quarts in about 3 months so is there any advice on that? Thanks.

The 88 repair manual will not really work for an 86, because the diagrams for the emissions and vacuum lines are not the same. You need a manual for an 85-86 truck.

I don't know about EFI, but my understanding is the 86 and 87 carbed vehicles were pretty much the same. 88 brought some significant changes.
I have an 86 FSM. I don't have the means to scan the whole thing, but if you need some particular pages, I can take pictures and put them up somewhere or send them to you. PM me.

Mine burns some oil when I am pulling the grades in the Sierras and it was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. On flat ground it doesn't burn much if any. On average I add .5 to 1 quart between oil changes. When it had 300k miles on it I would go threw 1 to 2 quarts between oil changes. How many miles do you drive per quart of oil?

I drive maybe 1k per qt of oil. I just put a new exhaust on it January (cheap pipes from autozone to get it street legal) and they are all coated in a real thick soot. And i had my friend drive it one day so i could see what it does and after you start it up and drive it it smokes but after that not much if any. Plus i live in mathews virginia. The biggest hill is about 30ft. Its all flat. Its buggin me cause i don't really know if thats the only problem this engine has. I haven't driven 4k since my last oil change and iv added 3-3.5 qts of oil.
