sounds like the torque converter is lugging. Did you try a tranny service/flush? There are alot of good additives out there that may help.

torque converter is an interesting hypothesis... but since the engine doesn't change direction when going from 1st to Rev, the torque converter is nearly ruled out- changing direction is handled within the transmission, not the converter.

Does raise some interesting questions though-
... what is the stall speed of the converter?
... are your rear brakes installed properly?

i havent had any major work done. i had my oil change about two weeks ago. and i dont think its the brakes because i would drive in reverse just fine and it would roll forward but when i hit the gas it would just cut out and die.

ok well the fact that is rolls forward at all... completly elimates my torque converter idea. you say it dies as soon as you give it any throttle. Does it shut straight down or can you peddle it and keep it running? How does the truck run just in park at idle? is it smooth....will it take throttle without a fuss? sorry for all the questions but i am just trying to get a clear picture of the symptoms!
