My right side lower control arm is rusted thru, how do i replace?

Hi guys,
The right side lower control arm on my 1995 4 Runner is shot, is this a big job to replace it? Anyone have tips or instructions on how to do this, videos and pics are cool too if they are out there.

Thanks,
DJ

HOLY ˟˟˟˟!
Normally they are pretty easy and you just have to remove the bolts and balljoint but with that much rust, you're probably going to have a battle on your hands

Red face

You really need to get under there and do a major inspection!!

If the lower control arm is rusted what else is in the same shape.

I would hope your redoing all the brake and fuel lines.

What I want to know is how did you let it get so bad before catching it??

Maybe your a Jiffy Lube type of person.

Everything else is still pretty decent except this, everything was looked at when the brake line was redone today. The truck does not run much, mostly during hunting season and a few times when i take my 14' boat to the lake. Not sure of the point your making about being a Jiffy Lube person though. I don't get off working on trucks and cars, I drive them.

Yeesh, that's ugly. I'd do a thorough frame inspection with that sort of rust.

Removing the control arm isn't difficult, just the two arm to frame bolts and the 4 lower balljoint bolts I believe. You may need a torch though

Frame checked out good, this is the biggest issue it has. Granted, there is rust but nothing that is to this point. I am the second owner, the truck has 145K on it. I have had it 3 years and only put about 1500 miles on it.

In theory it's not that hard to replace but I found that the bolts that attach the arm to the frame were rusted and seized inside the control arm bushings. Could get the nut off but couldn't pound the bolts out. Ended up having to cut the bolts to drop the arm out

Parts I needed were another control arm 2 control arm bushings and 2 new bolts with nuts.

The two bolts also control the camber & caster so you will need an alignment when you are done.
