My motor died

A bit of history on my truck, has 266,590 miles on it, and had developed a slight rod knock about 2-3 weeks ago. Anyway, coming home from work the other night(12-23) it started running rough andmaking a hell of racket, then died out on me a couple times. Anyway, had to end up calling a tow truck.

Anyway, it is my DD, and I need to get a motor back in it fairly quickly. I found a brand new long block for $1700 with free shipping from a place called japan engines inc., they have a web site and a ebay store. Question is, is that a good deal for a 22RE, and does anybody have any experience with that company?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any help.

thats where i got mine new motor from. got it off ebay from them. motor runs great so far, put about 15000 miles or so, i run 15w-30 valvoline full synthetic in mine. very happy with it, i also got there gasket kit with it. i liked it was all brand new from the get go not remanufactured. customer service is good, but kinda unorganized with shipping, got to me with no problems of any kind, they give a tracking # and when i got the # it showed up that day. but that could just be me panicing alittle to. other great thing is no core charge or core return.

heres a pic of it doing some work, and use it for my daily driver as well sometimes.

one more thing, i dont know your budget but these people seem pretty good to from their website, only bad thing is they want a core

http://www.22reperformance.com/Home%...20Engines.html

they've got a fully blue printed and balanced engine for $2700 with upgraded parts. the website shows everything they offer

Thanks for the info toyodually, $2700 is bit more than I want to spend. Although, their stage 1 motor, or even the stage 2 look like a possibility.

no problem, like i said though ive had no problems out of mine and it was all brand, new no core charge. the 22re people want your old core so you have to look at shipping it back to them.

and thats a good lookin little truck you have

Ya, I would rather not have to deal with a core, plus I want to keep my motor and eventually tear it apart and rebuild it. The $1700 one looks like a good deal, plus it has the metal TC guides in it.
Another question, do happen to know if these are new Toyota blocks and heads, or another company?
Oh and thank you.

the japan company bought the molds from toyota and they produce their own, thats why they dont require a core. thats what the customer service person told me, that was one of my questions as well. so its all toyota specs.

i would get a motor from a junk yard or take yours to a good machine shop. $1700 sounds like a lot for such a common engine

Checked CL, no luck there.

The company is actually based in Cali, and they have a place in Ohio, which is where the motor would be shipped from. So hopefully it should only take a couple days.

That's what it seemed like when I got mine, roughly a week. Had it shipped to my work loaded it up and took it home. Nice and neat on a pallet

There's a company in Central Forida called national cylinder head that I just got mine from. With a good core it'll run you about 1500 bucks. Here's the link:

Ya monster, if you could get me the number, that'd be great. I've been to Pilot Mountain before, and some of my family lives about 20 miles away.

1700 is great for a new engine,it amazes me when people suggest buying an engine from a graveyard that could blow up the first time you start it up.
