My 92 4Runner thread now lifted
hey im new to yotatech and toyotas in general and would like to share with you my new ride... i have been interested in 4runners for a little while but have been occupied with my classic vw's... that being said i parked the vw for the winter and wanted something that i could mud in and go to the snow in..im 19 and love to go mudding..... i found a 1992 4runner about an hour away from my house for 2700$.. i was interested.... so here it is.... 223000 miles and runs very strong ... the previous original owner works at toyota and kept it well maintained.. 5 speed has 31 inch all terrains power everything that works... heat and ac... which im not used to since i drive a Volkswagen... anyway i showed up test drove it to the smog shop.... and drove it home for 2000 cash...

Check out some of the vendors on here for front bumpers. I had a brush guard on mine and it was worthless imo.
You can fit 33x10.50s stock
For the cb radio, something you might want to look into is the cobra 18wxst2 i think
Or there is also the smaller ones that fit in the ashtray location.
Good luck with your rig. It looks like a good purchase.

Yea a cobra 19 DX fits in the ash tray.
If you want your truck to look like it has some lift, get rid of those running boards.
If you want more power for cheap, might want to look in to the ISR mod. Oh wait, your in cali so idk if that would fail you for smog. Heres a link,
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f130...4runner-75167/
I did it but with the spectra brand intake tube from autozone for $40.
Welcome!!! You will be amazed by the amount of information you will find on here.

well it depends. I cannot say for certain but i would think it would depend on what backspacing wheel you used with the 12.50.
I agree with taking off the running boards, that was the first thing i did. Ive heard good things about ball joint spacers and then you could look into some lift coils, coil spacers.
When i lifted my 4runner (4" bracket lift) i used land crusier coils and it leveled it out nicely. The coils are super flexy but are really soft in my opinion.
you could look into a compbination of bj spacers and maybe a small body lift if you wanted more height. Remember lower is better when it comes to wheeling. These 4runners are top heavy and the lower you keep it the better.

for the lift, there is a sticky at the top of the forum about all the lift possibilities for second gens...
imho, dont run bigger tires than you need... its a waste of money...
and if you plan on running over 32s then plan on regearing... my truck is a dog with 4.56s and 32 inch tires...
and id run a body lift over the suspension lift if all you want is to go mudding...
body lift raises a lower percentage of your truck's mass than a suspension lift...
some useful websites...

Yea search around for the lc coils.
I got mine from Rancho Toyota Truck in rancho cordova, ca.
Also search the classifieds, you may find someone pawning some lc coils off cause they didn't like them.

OK, here is the most sound advise you will EVER hear... Go 33x10.5's they fit stock (gear to match). Consentrate on armor depending on your wheeling conditions. Then lock as your wheeling experience inceases, or as your brass balls grow. Just ask my hero TC! Said it again. I think I need an Americain dime evertime I do! J/K!

We have the same 4Runner! (Look at my pics!)
I took the running boards off of mine and it does make it look lifted. I also took off the plastic piece on the bottom of the front bumper. You can also take off your rear bumper but I smack that on everything so I kept mine there for protection until a tube bumper.
I'm having a dilema (sp?) about getting bigger tires on stock gears too. I have the 4.56 stock gearing and I know someone where I live who has 32s on the stock gears and she can't pick up speed like I can.
You may want to consider keeping 31 inch tires and just getting a chunky mud terrain with the bj spacer and landcruiser coil lift. It will give a little more flex too. That's just my 2 cents. I still am considering 32s or 33s. lol.
I also got a cobra 19 Ultra 3 and put it in my dash under the cd player and I am going to squeeze in a toggle switch or two in there too

Ive heard some good things about T.W. tires. There was a thread on here a while back, search for it. its like Tread wright tires, or something like that.
Im going to be getting some 31s when my current ones take a dump.
