motor mounts
#1
Hey everyone, I gave a 1986 Toyota pickup 4x4 22r with a 5 speed transmission. It has a lot of rumble like the motor mounts are bad and they are very cracked so I proceeded to replace them. While I was replacing the drivers side mount, the transmission mount broke in half. So long story short, I can not get my mount to line up what so ever. I've been going at it for several hours and just can't get it to come forward or down. So I would like to know if anyone had any ideas on how to get it to line up. By the way all I have to work with is a floor jack

I was in the middle of taking off just the drivers side motor mount when the tranny mount split. So i put the motor mount on the engine but couldn't lign it up to the frame. After i couldn't get it to budge, I decided I'd put my new transmission mount on and maybe that would square it up. It didn't. So I loosened the passenger side enough to move around some and still couldn't get it to budge. So now I've got one motor mount not on, and the transmission mount not bolted to the crossmember. Is there any specific place to put the floor jack to get the most motion? I've been putting it under the rear of the oil pan with a 4x4 piece of wood. I'll try the 2x4 tomorrow when I've got some light.

An engine hoist would be worth gold if you can barrow one. Might have to get creative just make sure where ever you place it its a solid part. might help if you get it closer to middle and to the side you need to lift.
I modified my motor mounts with a 1/2" bolt running through both sides so it is like tetris to make it all line up even with a hoist.
Sleep on it and hit tomorrow with fresh eyes.

Just how are you trying to line things up??
I just bolt it to the block drop it back in the frame piece
.Yes it can be a real pain to do this your self get help if you can.
One person to line things up another to lower things back in place do one side at a time get the nut on but don`t tighten things till all the bolts are in

I did just one at a time and started with the drivers side. Because of the transmission mount, the drive train rotated some. The mount is bolted to the block and I figured it would just slide in to the frame, it didn't though. It's about 3/4 of an inch behind the front bolt hole and an inch above. I cannot get the drive train to straighten back out.

One of those things that in person it would take a few minutes to figure out just what needed to be moved.
Most likely it is stuck on something could be any place.
You might have to Jack up the transmission if it twisted towards the front drive shaft
If you were close I would be glad to help.
