Missing converter cover

I've spent the day under my son's 94 4-runner with 3.0 v-6 with auto and I just noticed it is missing the piece of sheet metal that covers the bottom of the torque converter. At least I think it's missing--I can look right up at the starter ring gear behind the engine oil pan. Any bad effects this would have? He's driven this about 3000 miles now this way since an engine swap. Can a lot of dirt get in the tranny via this route?

Thanks!

Jim

I would get the cover on as soon as you can. Yes dirt can get into the transmisson and it might just gum things up.

Thanks, I will do that. It was left off when the engine was swapped. Can it just be slid up in there and bolted on without separating the engine and transmission?
