Melted distributor cap and rotor

I've got a 90 3.0 and three times now I have had my distributor cap and rotor melt on me. I know the compression is bad on the #5 cylinder, and I am idling very rough, either heads or valves, no smoke in exhaust though, and no burning oil. Anyone ever hear of or see something like that?

Thanks

Bad compression should have no effect on your cap/rotor. If you're running really rich, your exhaust manifold might be getting too hot. would explain your rough running too.

Definitely a heat issue. Get your motor sorted and go from there. Short term fix would be to fab a heat shield to protect your distributor.
