My '87 with original 200k mile 22RE does fine with 30x9.50R15 tires, but when I ran LT26570R17 tires it was notably slower and 5th gear...not so useful.

My 86 2WD SR5 X-cab w/5 speed 3.57 diff on 205/70-14s has from bought new gotten 32-33 mpg highway doing 65-70. Combined around town 24-26 mpg. My OCD made me keep records of every fill up and mileage for ~15 years. These are real world MPG.
