Did you apply a small amount of RTV to the corners of the timing cover? Sounds like the gasket might have gotten messed up.

yes, u need to add some type of gasket maker. like toyotas FIPG anywhere two or more pieces meet. like right where the head, block, and cover meet

This happened to me after taking the timing cover off. Basically, the head gasket material that sits between the head and the timing cover gets thrashed, leaving a small gap between the timing cover and head. I RTV'd the hell out of it but it still leaked - but ONLY after engine shut down (think it was the oil pooling under the dizzy drive gear, and then leaking down the head and out the top of the timing cover).

I ended up using JB weld on the gap, and that's worked now for months. Not sure what it will mean when I take the head off eventually...maybe I'll have to heat it up to 300 degrees to get it off....but it works for now. I cleaned it best I could with brake parts cleaner before applying.
