I know a bunch of you guys have done this install before. I saw previous posts but none of them answers my problem. I have it all installed except I cant get the snap/lock ring back into place. It depresses all the way down but I cant get it to turn. Ive tried gloves, a rag, needle nose pliers, screwdrivers, and still nothing. Any suggestions at all would be great. Thanks

PS:I left the old rubber o-ring in there because I saw on marlins site that it says to do so. I assume that is what is making it difficult to get it in. Should I leave it in there, replace it with a thinner one, or just take it out completely?

I don't recall leaving any rubber o-ring in there when I did mine.
Actually it took me an hour to pull out all the rubber pieces with tweezers and maybe 5 minutes to remove and re-install the shifter.
The only thing between my shifter and the tranny is Marlin's plastic bushing.

I did pull out a bunch of rubber bits, which was the old seat. Inside of the shifter hole opening, underneath the tabs, where the seat sits, there is a flat o-ring type washer. It is extremely flexible rubber and can easily be taken out. I cant take any pics at the moment, sorry.

Marlin really needs to put this on their site, that rubber flat O-Ring does NOT go back in, I called and they told me and I quote "The only thing that should go into the shifter assembly is the lever, and the marlin unit." Just put in the unit and its good to go, if its sloppier then before, then you probably purchased the wrong bushing for your transmission, Could someone please sticky this?

Very cool. Thank you very much man. I took it out and it was easy to get that lock ring in place. I appreciate it. It feels a million times better than before. THANKS!!!

No problem, Glad to help! Could someone seriously sticky this? People ask this alot, and I'd like to sticky it or bring it to marlins attention they need to clarify this on their website.

The old rubber O-ring is what is left of your old disintegrated shifter seat.

I don't think so, there is a black rubber washer glued to the bottom of the greenish OEM shifter seat. The glue disintegrates over time, leaving a black rubber washing floating around under the seat.
