Manual Hub issue?

Manual Hub issue?
I couldn't find the info on a search, so forgive me if search and I are not on speaking terms.
I went mudding the other day, and noticed (prior to locking in the hubs) that one was half way between free and locked. I then put it in lock, 4wd seemed to work when I was getting stuck in 2wd, and when finished went back out to civilization. In my friend's driveway, when unlocking the hubs, I couldn't get that same hub to go all the way back to "Free". I tried rocking the vehicle, forward then reverse, and a few other things involving virgins, sacrifices and chicken bones and nothing helped.
Any ideas?
