I should be getting my e-locker tomorrow. I want to test it asap so I know it's working properly. I was going to buy the harness & kit from inchworm. The kit was on sale, now it's not. I'm still going to buy the harness, but since I have to spend more on the wire kit, I'm thinking of making my own. I searched and read a few members making their own. I want some opinions on how hard it is, and where to get all the wires and cost. I've been told inchworm (harness & kit $113.50) sells the kit in the same color code and it looks like ORS ($130) sells the kit as a 1 piece? Also, I want to use the factory switch and neither the inchworm or ORS kit comes with. Thoughts?

If it was my rig, I'd do it myself, usually because the wire kits are not so good. (at least they can't tolerate Icelandic nature, e-lockers are NOT popular here because of failures in the wiring (and also the motors).)

If I recall correct, it's not so much of a trouble, I think it's only 6 wires coming from the motor. (Lock/Unlock motor, GND, Locking Sensor, Lock sensor, and unlocking sensor).

i bought the harness that plugs into the 3rd, but made my own circuitry to control it, it wasnt too hard, i made some rookie mistakes because its been about 6 years since i did any real circuit work. just follow the schematic and its not bad.

edit: i used the factory switch, just soldered leads directly to the pins. i like that RR DIFF LOCK button on the dash.

Sean, that is the reason I wanted to do that also. I like the RR switch. And neither ORS or inchworm include it w/their kit. I was thinking of buying the harness only plus the gaskets and bolts, but wanted to make the kit. Do you remember *roughly* how much you paid? And where did you buy the wires? I've read that maybe at an RV store, but have also read it can be a PITA to find the wires. The colors you have don't match the wire colors from the harness do they? Did you buy the harness from Toyota, inchworm?

If you know how to wire a relay, its easy. I did it myself on mine and as I remember you can buy a short piece of harness that comes off the diff motor and has about two foot of wires attached and the plugs on both ends from a toyota dealer. I cut the plug off of the end opposite of the motor end and ran the wires up to the cab and into some relays.

If you buy an e-locker switch for a 99 taco, the plug that will go into that switch will be 90980-10631. This plug will come empty, with out wires, but if you talk to some of the guys in the shop I bet money that as least one of them has some harnesses that he will let you get the pins out of to fill your e-locker plug. Just offer him a couple bucks for lunch
