LT IFS wheeling capabilities?

Finally got the 4Runner out. Bone stock, 4th 4x4 I've had. My K5 Blazer was the best stock.

Considering a Total Chaos kit, but after this weekend, not sure it'll meet the wheeling side of my expectations.

Anyone in SoCal have an LT truck with lockers I can hang out with on the trails sometime?

Any good comparison of IFS LT and SAS?

There was a SAS vs LT IFS shootout in an issue of 4WD Toyota Owner a few months back. The LT IFS truck blew the SAS rig away on the faster fire road type trails, and kept up with it just fine in the more difficult stuff.

I'm a firm believer that LT IFS is the future for these trucks. I had full plans to SAS, now I'm starting to think about chopping my '85 SFA into an 8" IFS setup and going LT.

i would trade trucks with you before i let you go form SFA to long travel! LT does nothing for me here, no places to go fast, just crawling.

but to the OP LT is great if you wanna go fast and do some craling and wheeling. SAS if you wanna do more crawling

It's just a longer version of what IFS trucks run stock.
Imo, the best bet is a custom CV with 1350 (i think?) U-joints.. Like what D-60's use.

I don't currently have a SAS rig, but I do have a SFA from an '85 pickup that I would like to modify to mimic IFS. That means 8" front diff with lots of options.

I've had my 94' Toyota truck with the Total Chaos uni ball kit and fiberglass body kit for two years now, and I have no complaints whatsoever. I have never required a winch, tow strap, or new C/V axles. This rig has had no problem with any terrain around here in central Texas.

Here is my tow cents, if you put 5.29 gears and 37" tires, yeah your going to break C/V axles left and right. If you want a rig with dual transfer cases, low gears and huge tires, do a SAS and build your axles to handle all that added stress. Other wise, if you are going to just have a mild rig like mine, you should be just fine with your upgraded IFS. Just whatever you do, don't put one of those lift kits that are like a body lift for your suspension, using brackets or spacers to lower your suspension parts.
