I'm seeing leaks at both ends of the larger of the two hoses that comes out of the power steering fluid reservoir, the the one that exists the underside of the canister. How special is this hose? I see it on-line for >=$40 (part #44348A?). It seems to be the suction (low-pressure) hose, and 5/8" ID.

What am I missing that's so special about this hose that prevents me from using hose such as this from RockAuto?
ACDELCO Part # 36350030, for $9.91 for 3ft?

Just want to make sure I'm not missing something here.

I did a PS fluid flush a few weeks ago and i don't see anything special about those hoses. Just go to NAPA bring the old hose and compare with what they have, and get some heavy duty worm hose clamps to replace the old ones.

You need to get 5/8 hose that is rated for PS fluid / ATF. Here's what I used for this application:


It's actually made by Gates, just packaged by AC Delco.

I used regular heater hose before and it got all soggy. It is resistant to glycol but not to oil. Don't use heater hose!

The ACDelco hose (#36-350030) worked just fine, and required about 12.5 inches. Thanks.

The repair-manual-spec'd bleeding process went smoothly, and a few discretely placed paper towels and a peanut can addressed mess during the hose replacement process.

FWIW, I went with Toyota's branded ATF.

One more fluid leak put to rest.

I'll piggy back on this thread;

On my 92, I have three hoses coming from the PS reservoir,
one on the underside that goes to the pump
one one the side pointing towards the center of the dash that runs in front of the radiator and then to the steering box
one that points towards the driver's side headlight and runs directly to the steering box.

Which is the return line that I would need to remove to change the PS fluid? The FSM shows it on the side of the reservoir, but only shows the one hose rather than all 3.
