Low compression and won't idle

A friends has a 2nd gen pick-up with a 22re and it was fully rebuilt about 40k ago with a brand new head. Now the motor doesn't idle and has low compression in 2 cylinders, but it runs at higher rpms. But it doesn't burn oil or leak water and there is no water in oil. He was driving when this happened, so it's been parked since.

Anyone have any ideas?

That may account for a rough idle. But how does that effect the compression?

What are the compression numbers for each cylinder?

If you actually have low numbers between adjoining cylinders it would leave me to believe the head gasket is bad only between the two. A bad valve can give low compression as well like stated before.

what is the compression? and if a valve or 2 are out of adjustment it will lower compression, espically if intake does not open or exhaust is open too long? was engine over reved? does it make any odd tapping or the like sounds other then missing?
