steering still OK? I hit a big bolder on my 88 and thought it was OK, straightened ou the fender but it would still rub depending on the terrain and the way I would turn, but it ended up being a bent frame just enough for the tire to rub at certain angles.
I'm not saying it's this; but just check.
Have you checked your CV on that side?

If you're as unlucky as I was, it'll end up being all your races, bearings, seals, washers, locks, ect from the shaft outwards being shattered then fused together. Imagine my surpise pulling off my aisin hubs to find only a handful of pensil eraser sized chunks of metal where alot of important components should be when I thought I had only blown a shaft! Shaft out rebuilds aint cheap. Thank bob I work for a brake shop chain and get 40-75% discounts from advanced, oriellys, ect... Parts alone woulda cost me ~$400, plus labor! Got it all done for $110 in parts and a couple tall boys after work haha.

I'd lift the front end and spin the tires to get a better idea of where its coming from. It might be wheel bearings. The previous owner of my truck had one sieze up on him.

Assuming IFS, search for threads on "steering stops". Maybe when you hit you broke off what little remained of one and now you get the classic horror-story sounding screech that is actually an incredibly cheap and easy fix.

does it happen when you make any turn, or only when the wheel is cranked all the way?

Only when you crank it all the way. There are steering stops on the front and and rear to keep the steering from moving more than the cvs like to. If you check the lower control arms you will see small brackets on them where the steering stops hit. Some people just throw grease on them and call it good, but that will eventually get rubbed off. You can pick up the groan stop covers for about $4.
Here is a link to a place with them. Not sure if that is each or for two and you need 4:
