Loss of trans fluid,Filling transfer box
Checked my fluids before a long trip I'm getting ready to take.On my 95 toyota pickup, 22re manual trans I found that all of the trans fluid had pushed out of the trans and overfilled the transfer case. Anyone had this issue.Leave it alone or drop the transfer case?

Yes, I had drained and filled the trans and transfer case last year.Went to check the trans, down 2 quarts, no sign of external leaks. When I pulled the transfer case plug fluid just continued to pour out.It was well over the drain/fill hole.Looking at the drain pan it was a lot of fluid.

There is a seal between the trans and the X-case that is leaking. needs to be changed. Before you pull out the old seal, check the installed depth and put the new seal in the same depth.
Too much fluid can drain out of the trans and cause damage. Or al easet severe in convience.

PITA level 8(10 being highest). Only because you have to remove/install the transfer case. Which sucks if you don't have a transmission jack. Most folks don't(me included). Other than that it's just like replacing any other radial-lip seal on the truck. There's a lot of fluid draining/refilling you'll need to do now too, not fun.

Not too bad if you have help. I've done it w/o pulling the trans. Pull the drive shafts, shifters and unbolt the t-case from the trans and then unbolt the crossmember from the frame and pull the tcase back ath the seal is right there at the back of the trans.
Be prepared for a flood of fluid.

There is a big space between the seal protected portion of the trans and the seal protected portion of the xfer case that the fluid could leak into from the trans that is not serviced by either of the drain plugs. That is where the flood would come from.
