I've heard about O2 sensor wiring getting wet causing problems. Other than that I don't know. Make sure that harness is dry and get it out of any wet areas. Maybe wrap with some electrical tape?

wd40 would help quite a bit if that was a problem, also try putting dielectric grease in your plug wire boots. with something like this, your only choice is to just do one thing at a time till you nail it, as frustrating as it is.

i've always heard that Bosch were good.
what's wrong with them?
(not that I'm partial to any particular brand, I don't have any experience in this area and am just curious)

bosch is a good brand but they just don't work well with toyotas from what I have read. NGK or Denso is the way to go.

Yep, the pick-ups INSIDE the distributor have went south and are
picking up the ambient moisture in the air. Toyota service in Japan
did a bulletin EVER ago on it. I had the exact issue in my 93" 4R.

It felt like the ignition was kickin in / out then BOOM it would accelerate.
Those pick-ups aren't replaceable either. Look for a another distributor.
