Loose ball joints on mirrors

My mirrors, which are mounted to the door (I did some searching and apparently there are two types?) are loose on the ball joints. Is there a way to remedy that or do I need replacements?

Thanks

i can tell you from experience, do not buy the 7.00 cheap ones.

i ordered 2 from rock auto and one came in so loose it wouldnt stay up. the adjuster inside was stripped so it free spun.

the other, even after tightening, has now become just as loose as the factory ones.

as far as your original question....i dont know i was so bummed about my purchase i just let them hang.

side note: i have thought about knurling the ball a bit to try and make it stick, as well as just putting a couple screws in it to stop its movement entirely. i have dont neither.

the screws will work, but will not be easy to adjust

I assume yours are not electric; that's a whole different matter.

You can take the back off and there a couple of screws that you can tighten up. It helps some.

Sorry guys for some reason the reply I submitted last night didn't go through? I confirmed that yes my mirrors are manual. I'm going to take them apart today and hopefully I can adjust the screws enough to keep them put. The driver's side is marginal, the passenger mirror doesn't stay put at all but neither seems bad enough that a minor adjustment won't resolve the issue.

Thanks again guys

Got it figured out. There is a 10mm bolt inside the housing that you can adjust the spring tension, trouble is the passenger side one (which appears to have already been adjusted) is stripped. I'll have to order a new set.
