Looking for some tire opinions

OK first I did some searches and found some results but the aviator wants what it wants... some specific thoughts opinions and real world results...

Winter is a comin' and while I have a good amt. of tread left on my BFG ATs [31/10.5R15] I was not happy with the performance last winter [3rd winter] [we had less snow and more rain/ice then usual] the tires were breaking loose in the wet/ice far too often I even spun out a few times making turns at the lights... (Yes the inflation was correct, No I was not driving like a meathead) suffice to say I lost a lot of confidence in the tire's ability to keep me out of trouble... I am considering the following replacements

Yokohama Geolander AT-S and the Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 31/10.5 R15 or similar/slightly larger LT size
The Tire Rack reviewers who drove toyotas generally gave the yokos hi marks not many reviews for the pirellis...
So I want some input anybody used these tires in the winter? how were they?

Michilean ice tires where the best ice/rain/snow tires i have ever used, i used to own a 98 Camry V6 and it saw a lot of COLD winters in northern Canada and those tires made ice feel like slippery water and nothing more, not once did i slip about (unless i rally put my foot down but come on, who'd be dumb enough to do that in the winter) and at times i would have to wait for the people in front o me at a green light because they just couldnt get going. kinda funny really.

i looked at both those tires as well. I had BFG all terrain KO's and they sucked harcore in the winter. Lotta hype over nothing too bad i figured that one out with a big dent to the wallet. I didn't buy either the yokahama nor the Pirelli after my BFGs. I didn't wanna land myself in another bank breaker w/no return so i went to tires plus bought their econo line brand Timberline AT 31x10.5 and last winter i had to put it in 4x4 1 time. It just hurt too much to take the BFG's off road and smell the r$$bber burning as i try to climb a boulder. f- that yo.

what about a set of M/T's, maybe step up a size to 33x10.5 to reduce the effect that the gearing has - that should cause you to keep traction better. and air down a bit further...

see the problem is your'e using b.f.g. a/t's ,instead you shuold be using mud terrains in the snow or ice... lots more open voids in the tread pattern to keep it from packing up w/snow, or go to the swamper ssr's . sure theyr'e a little more louder but we all like the sound of the mud tire hum don't we ???

Thanks for the input guys lets keep the opinions coming...
Don't really want to go the MT route... to noisy and to much of a fuel econ hit for my taste...
