whoa dude.....you're not supposed to use smileys like that on this board...you probably should edit that out before a mod sees it and jumps down you're throat...

I love them both. I love the look of a bobbed bed (and understand exactly why you got the longbed in the first place), and the flatbed looked really badass. I agree with you, I thought about going flatbed for a while, but I wouldn't be able to use the truck how I use it now, which would defeat the purpose of me having a truck in the first place.

Nice work!

you know i used to live in spokane and i thought i knew what rust was, but i was wrong! now after living in alaska where we get alot more rust problems i realize i was used to high desert conditions that stuff doesn't rust as bad as it does in other places. maybe you should take that into account. i think it looks pretty decent, better than most the beds i see up here of that vintage.

I will take some pics of my long bed and others of the same year and newer if i ever get home when it is light out ( gets dark here now at 430, damn daylight savings!!!)

Hell, i was going to get a flatbed just to haul my quad.
The width of the tires in the front makes it hard to fit in the bed, plus if i got racing width A-Arms i'd be screwed.

Bikes? Straps.
Wood? Racks...

from the pictures, it looked like you got a bed missing corners at the cab, and then gaping rust holes.. looked bad imo.

looks good, i wanted to see how you handled the ridges in the bed, because i thought that would be the biggest problem. Thanks for the picture, how long did it take if you dont mind me asking?

i spent 3 hours after work getting it all cut and mocked up. and preped for welding. then the next day i welded it all.. nice and slow. prolly another 3 hours till i had bondo on. i was a lil skeptical to do it at first cuz the rust but it really was easy

ya guys its a 1984 944. non turbo. needs reference sensors and i am slackin to get them.

peow.. stop posting in this thread. go make your wooden flatbed for your highschool project. that will be super cool ! i'm willing to bet that camaro is your dads.

Hopefully I'm clear on this. You got a long bed, is that 8'? You took out 18", leaving you with around 6.5'? So now you pretty much still have the funcionality of a short bed but awesome approach/departure angles with the bob?

it was a 84 1 ton truck, if he puts a short bed on there and centers the wheel wells, then he will have a few inches between the bed and cab? And that is why he is going with the long bed and then bobbing it. Sounds right to me, and it looks nice.

lol.. just got home from work and to dark for pics. the bed had to be bobed. if it wasnt, the last body mount and 18 inchs would have been floating. and being such bad condition it wouldnt have lasted. sorry i'm not from a rust free zone.

Was my math semi correct? I just think it's bada** that you have the off road capability of a bobbed bed but you can still use camper shells and such. I like it.

Pretty work. Looks good. You woulda crapped yourself over the 944 turbo I saw in the upulit a while back. Couldn't believe it when I saw it. Had a not so crumpled left fender and the rest of the car looked day one.Wish I had a seen it before it hit the yard.

alright we will all be waiting...

and are you really still on the this subject about hauling loads and center of gravity???

Dude you have torision bars, probably the worst design for carrying loads....so just drop it. start a new thread if you want to post.
