I've been searching and found some good threads on lunchbox lockers. I like reviews on the Aussie. I have the stock 4:10 gears on my 89 3.0 runner with 31's. I like the tire size and don't want to change. If I did maybe id go to 32's and nothing bigger. Is it ok to run the locker with the stock gears. I don't have to upgrade to 4:88s if I'm comfortable with my ride? I'm not Rock crawling or doing extreme off road, just like to fish in remote areas and just want the extra security of a locker.

Sure--there's nothing wrong with using a locker and stock gears. I've had a Lock-Right in the back with 4.10s for around 10 years and really like it. The ability to self-install is a big plus.

Beware of the "security" of a locker. It will just get you in deeper before you get stuck. I find a winch or come-a-long and straps much better for "security".

Alot of old post mention that there was no Aussie locker for the v6 because it had a 4 pinion diff. Is there one available yet? Or is the lock rite locker the next best option? What is a non slip locker? The others are auto lockers right.

I did it only lists one locker. Doesn't mention if its for v6

i have a lock right in the rear with 4.10s and 33s and it works great. check out my build thread.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have one for the 4-pinion rear, but the best would be to email them with the specifics of your vehicle. They're very responsive to questions.
I just put an Aussie in my IFS front. Installation was a snap (once I got the diff out). Haven't had a chance to take it off road yet.

i have a spartan locker in my 4.88 v6 8" rear diff.
It works pretty well. It takes a while to get used to corners and you certainly feel more planted in smooth curves.
Mine clunks in corners but you get used to it. Other people will look at you funny though.

Super easy to install. setting the backlash is pretty easy too. You can use the Harbor Freight gauge.

Ok I emailed them. They do have one. I figured soneone here has had to have used it. I read good reviews on the 4 cylinder one. Hopefully the v6 one works just as well.

Either way you go whether its Aussie or Spartan you can't go wrong. I have spartan lockers in both front and rear axles and even though I haven't used them off road yet I know for a fact that they can perform well. When I took Mark (ChefYota4x4) to an off road trip with my friends and I he was able to keep up with just one rear spartan locker on his IFS truck. And both my friends have tripped out SFA trucks. Both use Detroit Lockers front and rear. And Mark was able to keep up with no problem. Ultimately seeing his trucks performance is what made me decide on getting to spartan lockers for both axles.

Also the guy at ToyotaMasters(the shop I got my gears and lockers installed at) said that in his opinion Spartan Locker is the best lunchbox locker you can possibly put in to your rig before going detroit. That and Aussie of course. And coming from a dude that installs these things every day that sounded very promising and assuring I'd have a very capable rig afterward.

Edit: also they dobinclude instructions on how to install yourself if you decide to go that route. I also liked the fact that there are YouTube videos on how to install these too.
