Lifter adjustment/valve tick
Alright, searched the forums and I cant find anything on this. Here's my issue:
I bought my 4 runner about a month ago from my brother (94 sr5 3vz) who had it 6 months before getting tired of it and wanting something else. The guy he bought it from apparently buys yota's with blown head gaskets, fixes them, and flip them... this being one of them. Well apparently when he put mine back together he didnt adjust the lifters, so I have an obnoxious lifter tick, and, well I'm wanting to fix it.
Here's my problem, I cant find any information as to whats involved. I looked in Alldata at work yesterday to see what they said (I work in a small shop), which was no help to me at all, as it took me into a circle of absolutly no information. Tried searching the forum, no luck either.
So what I'm asking is can someone point me in the right direction to get this issue resolved? Much appreciated!
Chuck

Thats what I've gathered reading thru the forums. This tick is almost unbearable and loud enough to hear over the hole in the muffler.
Other than the tick, I absolutely LOVE my 4runner. Been a diehard Ford guy up until now, granted I spent the last 18 months in a 93 Nissan Pathfinder (biggest pile of junk and wasted metal I've ever seen or driven.)
Definately looking to give the old Yota the love and care she deserves. Again, can't thank you all enough for the help on directing me to the info I need to get her running right!

Thats also crossed my mind. If it helps, its a little louder on the passenger side of the motor, but both sides tick, which is why I was thinking lifter tick.

Valve "lash" or clearance is adjusted by the time consuming method removing and measuring and replacing each shim for the solid lifters. This would have 100% easier and smarter to do during Head Gasket replacement....
Sure the engine has the correct amount of oil? The top end will always sound to be starved of lubrication first if there is a lack of engine oil. 3VZ is about 5 quarts capacity.
Correct weight oil?

Oil is one of the top things I check. Check it every 3-4 days or so. 5 quarts of 10w30 Valvoline Maxlife High Mileage is what I run.
From what I'm gathering, if I'm going in to do the lifter adjustment/Valve lash adjustment, it might be best to just go ahead and re-rebuild the top end. I say that as I honestly don't trust the guy who did it in the first place. Again, appreciate the info! The more info the better!
