Lifted 4x4 88 pickup transfer case issue.

A couple months ago I purchased a 1988 Toyota Pickup 4x4 with a 4 inch lift. Recently tried to engage the truck in 4 high and the shifter came right out of the transfer case. The weeks before that, I couldn’t get the truck out of 2 high regardless.
When the shifter pulled out, I realized it was only connected by two bolts and they both broke off.
I was told by a work friend that the truck is higher but the transmission is still positioned at the same height, and explained I needed to get an adapter?
Is there such a thing?
I hope someone has run across this issue before.

So you have a 4 inch body lift?

The hole in the floor isn't big enough to move the shift handle everywhere it needs to go to change from 2x4 to 4x4. The end of the handle travels farther then the part of the handle that's closer to the transfer case so it needs more room. Cut the hole out bigger so it can move.

This will only work if you have a body lift, if his coworker doesn't know what he is talking about, then he could have a suspension lift and a screwed up transfer case... need more info before I would advise cutting sheet metal.

You could also upgrade with a short-shift kit which will reduce the amount of travel the stick needs to engage different gears too. You won't have to hack anything up and it'll fit that 'holding it on by two bolts' deal you got goin.

Here's the link for the 22re/W56 setup. I don't know what motor/trans you have, but at least this will get you going in the right direction.

I have to assume he has a body lift because he mentioned that the truck is higher but the transmission is still at the same height. If his co-worker can't tell the difference between a body lift and a suspension lift then that's on him, not me.

But I agree, more info is always helpful. I'm just going off what I have to work with.

1. Quit listening to your friend.

2. 4" suspension lift or body lift?

If suspension lift then you just need to fix your shifter. It is held down with more than 2 bolts.

Did your friend sell you this deal?

No it was an old hunting rig that I bought to use when it snows. My daily driver is not a 4 wheel drive.

And the Toyata has a body lift on there. As I was looking I found the site below. And wasn't sure if that would fix the issue.?

That will work. It's the same thing, just maybe a different brand.
