Lift, Tires and Gears opinions and pics.

I have searched and googled and i can't find the answer to my question. The info I did find was always a little different than what I am looking for. So here is a little info and the question. 93 Yota xtra cab pickup 4x4 with 3.0 and 5 speed. Stock suspension and gears with 31x10.50x15. No engine mods or anything. 95% stock. This is my DD. Not too many hills mostly flat ground. 50/50 highway and city driving. The weekend wheeler.

Question: I am putting on a TG sas 4in kit. I was thinking about running 33in tires. I am going to run 33's because i like the skinny tires plus the weight difference from a 35in tire. My question is how does that look and perform. I am thinking about 4:88's in it, but how is that going to affect my mpg's and highway speed. Like I said it's my DD.

Please feel free to post opinions and pics of what your running. Any info is helpful info.

33x10.50's and 4.88's will be perfect! It will actually give you MORE power than you have now (since the 31 wasn't factory tire size), make your speedometer correct, and retain the mileage you get now!

I can't really help with the SAS part... Sorry 'bout that!

EDIT: Don't forget to use the search function of the website... It REALLY helps since the SAS topic has been covered MANY times! There is TONS of info on your questions!

As already said, 33's and 4.88's will be pretty much perfect, return it to stock power(nearly, there's still more weight and height working against mileage). Why do you need 4 in of sas lift, though? Most every pic I've seen on here of even the 3" sas from TG people run 35's with probably enough room for 37's. Sas lifts run tall, and 33's tend to look stupid small on them.

Unless I was just dead set on a SAS I would use ball joint spacers and a diff drop to run 33's. I got my ball joint spacers, diff drop and new Rancho 9000 shocks from Ebay for around $300. 33's with 4.88 gears are perfect that's what I run in my Toyota with a 22R and a 5 speed. The SAS kit will cost a lot more than the ball joint spacers also. Just my .02 cents.

I'm new here to Yotatech and just recently purchased my second Toyota. It is a 91 X-cab with the 3.0 5-speed Marlin. It has 33x10.5x15 swamper TSL's and 4.56's. This thing is a blast to drive, it is basically my daily driver at this point as well. I have had the 33's rub maybe 5 times in the front, by hitting bumps a bit faster then I should as I'm still testing it out. Unfortunately I'm not all completely sure what has been done to the suspension yet, it is still IFS though. Hope the info helps.

The 4" and 33s will defiantly look small. The total lift amount isn't 4", just the springs are. So total lift will more likely be around the 6-8" mark.

If your trying to stay low, search RUFs, or even stay IFS.

Lockers will get you farther than a lift.

Hey Richard, honestly I've only had the truck for about a week so I haven't really done anything but fix a small leak. It's been nice and cold here in Wyoming, unfortunately no snow to play in, and I don't have a garage. So it has really only been used to commute to work and back. I will crawl under it and start checking things over after it gets above 25 degrees. I really want to do the Zuk mod, but at this point I am still undecided on what I'm going to do in the future. Currently it is a solid running truck that I am getting a lot of enjoyment from, I would appreciate any suggestions though.

Thanks everyone. I am wanting the sas because i like the way the truck performed and crawled on my '85. Also i am wanting 33's because im not too crazy about the 12.5 wide 35in tire. plus the weight difference. I have not bought anything yet i am still doing the research. i am trying to figure out what to get first, locker, or sas kit. I dont want to buy 33 in tires and then put the sas on it and have it look stupid. i want to buy something and just keep it. i cant change tires everytime i make a change to the truck.

finally this might make me seem dumb or whatever but what is (hammerd down the pinch weld) mean? thanks

Ok so i have come to the conclusion that i need a least 35 in tires with the 4 in kit. Ihave seen pics and it looks perfect for what i want. my next question is with a 3. slow and 5.29 running 35x12.50x15, how is that setup going to affect highway speed, rpm and power? thanks

Other than just more weight and more resistance from the rig just being taller and less aerodynamic, 5.29's and 35's should be pretty much like stock.

RPM wise on the highway you'll be about the same, but you won't be going as fast and won't have as much power because of the added rotational mass and wind resistance. You are going to give up some driveability and comfort with an SAS'd daily driver.

I vote 35's and 5.29's. Same route I'm going as soon as I settle on a front and rear locker to do the gear swaps.

It's one of those things that if you go "less" than you will always wish it were "more".

33s make small obsticles more of a challenge and big obsticles a blast! but still go down the road nice. youll need less lift as well.this all equals less money. the old rule of thumb was 33s and 3" lift. a dd should be nice and simple. sas or ifs, i dont care it all works (ive had both). youll get more out of the use of lockers than big lift and tires unless youre going for insane terrain. but if this is what youll be doing than youre not looking at a daily driver any more. my rig is ifs on 33s and 3" with 4.56s locked and welded and i dare to go anywhere, on or off road. gas mileage is some where between great to fantastic. i think i spent more on beer building it than on parts. only thing left that i really think id enjoy is the 4.70 gear or duel cases.

33x10.50 and 3" lift makes for a very good all around driver. It's also very affordable. Unless you are doing a lot rock crawling you don't need a solid axle.

I just put on the 33's and need to regear but I love the way my truck drives on the highway. I drove it 14,000 miles last year.

Just one more opinion...

What tire companies make 33"x10.50x15 tires? All of the 33" tires I have seen are 33"x12.50x15 except for one model (33"x10.50x15 TA series) that BF Goodrich has listed.

BFG also offers the KM2s in the 33x10.50 size.

I think Toyo carries a 33x10.50 mud terrain as well

Hey Suncomb1, I am actually in the market for that size tire also. There seem to be very few companies that still make it. I have some Super Swamper TSL 33x10.5x15's on my truck right now that are pretty worn out. I went to tirerack.com and searched for that size and only found the BFG All-terrains or Mud-terrains, there is also a new off road tire by General called the Grabber which I am considering. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes) Anyone use these or heard any good/bad reviews?
